Title: Cleaning the exhaust pipe Post by CeliaMarie on 07/15/10 at 15:40:34 Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search, and could not find anything. I took my textile jacket off and laid it across the back of the seat, and the sleeve melted a bit on the muffler. I scraped most of it off while it was hot, and after it cooled, I used Goof Off. That got even more off. Now I had a dull coating on the muffler. I buy Easy Off oven cleaner, and spray that on the cold muffler. Even more comes off. Then I take a Mr. Clean Magic sponge and start rubbing away at what was left. Looked ok, but still had a very thin coating in spots of what looks like soap scum. I should have left well enough alone. I took the bike for a ride, thinking I'd heat it up, and use the Easy Off again. BAD MOVE. It left tiny spray spots all over the freak'in place, and to top it off, I went to take it off with a microfiber towel, and now the towel melted to it. ARRG! Does anyone suggest anything? Bleh. :-/ |

Title: Re: Cleaning the exhaust pipe Post by CeliaMarie on 07/15/10 at 17:28:56 You're right.. I WON'T do that again. ;) Anyway, a cold muffler and more Easy Off took EVERYTHING off this time, including the white spots and haze. Thanks for quick response! |
Title: Re: Cleaning the exhaust pipe Post by WD on 07/15/10 at 17:45:10 That's why mine has a BBQ paint colored muffler... hides the crud that gets stuck to it. Or in it, cheap chrome. |
