Title: ..and the beat goes on. Post by Starlifter on 07/28/10 at 18:07:49 >snip< The U.S. Defense Department is unable to properly account for over 95 percent of $9.1 billion in Iraqi oil money tapped by the U.S. for rebuilding the war ravaged nation, according to an audit released Tuesday. The report by the U.S. Special Investigator for Iraq Reconstruction offers a compelling look at continued laxness in how such funds were being spent in a country where people complain basic services like electricity and clean water are sharply lacking seven years after the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein. The audit found that shoddy record keeping by the Defense Department left the Pentagon unable to fully account for $8.7 billion it withdrew between 2004 and 2007 from a special fund set up by the U.N. Security Council. Of that amount, Pentagon "could not provide documentation to substantiate how it spent $2.6 billion." ********************************************** I hate that there's not one history book that will tell the truth about America and wars. The history books will only tell the pro-Bush version, that we went to war to save the world from the very dangerous Saddam, but the real reason America goes to war is because the super-rich can't make as much money in peacetime. That's fact and everybody knows it but when the last time you heard it? America lurches from war to war like a drunk looking for his next drink. We can't stop ourselves - we have to constantly be at war. And we tell ourselves we're a beacon of hope to the world? What does America export? A few airplanes, a handful of computers and war machinery - that's all we sell. The war profiteers make so much, they're on a "black budget" so we won't know. We get into wars so we can use up all the tanks and trucks and bombs so we can get busy and build a new generation of weapons for the next war. Crooked congressmen regularly order planes and ships the Pentagon doesn't want so they can bring home more pork for the war profiteers in their districts. And anyone who speaks out against this waste is "helping al Qaeda." We send our men and women to die so the super-rich can make more money. Iraq - war of choice. Iraq 1991 - war of choice. Grenada - war of choice. Panama - war of choice. Vietnam - war of choice that cost us 55,000 lives - did we learn anything? No. And it's all because the super-rich don't have enough. |

Title: Re: ..and the beat goes on. Post by WebsterMark on 07/29/10 at 06:28:20 well, since that wise sage Mick says it, I guess it must be true... honestly, Grenada and Panama were not wars by any definition of war. Debate if the 'actions' were right or wrong, but don't call them wars and lump in with Vietnam or Korea for example. and as usual, i'm puzzled why such a large % on this forum hate the US like Mick, Bill, Lost and Star. You have such a narrow minded view, it would be demoralizing if I didn't know you represent only a fraction. |

Hate the US? Seriously? Star? Youre way wrong. It is a case of Intellectual Honesty, not hate for country. Do you walk blindly by a dripping faucet in your home & just pretend it isnt in need of repair, because you "Love" your home so much? Why are we taught its Unpatriotic to make note of whats wrong in our country? Is it so no one will admit there are problems & STOP the criminals who are running the show? Unless people have the guts to admit to theselves there are problems, thers no way to ever correct them. War, not a war,, whatever. Point is prettywell lost on those who DIED |

When I came here in 1967 I knew then that this country was way behind Europe I thought I would give it time to catch up.it was unbelievable to me that this country had zero health care for it's citizens ,why is that, it's all about money, until I realized this country is run by greed, and greed only ,it was too late for me ,all my kids were here ,my wife wanted to go back, she died before she made it out. my kids are married to Americans so they won't go back, and as for me I would like to go but it's to late now,I will miss my kids and grandkids, However I am saving up to make a trip over before I die, At last I will be able to have some decent fish-n-chips,bacon and eggs, and real bread. |
