Just as sad that his buddy commits suicide the same way 2 weeks later.

If someone hands you a gun and you don't respect it, sooner or later you're going to shoot yourself. If you're lucky, you only loose a toe.

Yes, and the sad thing about (most) young riders is their feeling of invulnerability and the idea that they will live forever. Crippling accident? death?...not a chance.
