Title: Look Twice
Post by prechermike on 09/08/10 at 07:47:38

Hey guys, just found this.  I am sure no one here needs it, but maybe we can pass it around.

Intersting clip.  The first biker is riding the right side lane and speeding when they are not seen.  The second the biker is riding limit speed or less; and is in the left part of the lane that will give them a wider view for the car to be seen from.

1st clip, biker not even there or camera angle selected to hide the crash dummy on a bike, track can be seen as a black line along edge of road.
2nd clip biker clearly visible.

IDK, staged hollywood accidents will do as much to harm bikers image as make GP aware.

The camera angle was designed to not show the first cycle but if you watch closely it appears for about a quarter of a second before he pulls ahead. He looked right at the bike but his face hid it from the camera.
however it is a good demonstration of selectively blind driving by the automobile.
Had it been a cop on a motorcycle, the driver would been sure to recognise  the threat.

I would say the motorcycle was going to fast and not paying attention.

1. It is scientifically proven that if you drive a BOX (=cage) you'll be on the lookout for another box;

2. It is scientifically proven that if you ride with your headlight on you WILL improve your chanses of being seen;

3. How long did they take to shoot that clip ?
In the 1st example, the shadow of the telephone pole slants towards the center of the intersection;
In the 2nd example, the shadow of the telephone pole is clearly going the other way, at almost a 90°angle...

I been there a few times and it really really hurts!
As the trainers at the MSF say, "Your fault, their fault, nobody's fault...It's still your fault! You decided to get on the bike in the first place."
Be careful out there!
