Title: More pics from paradise Post by Phelonius on 09/26/10 at 18:41:39 Went for a ride up north along the Kohola Coast today. I think this is where I want to live. It is gorgeous up there. I will now attempt to present photos. http://bikepics.com/pictures/2068673/ This is the original statue of Kamehehmeha at Kohala. http://bikepics.com/pictures/2068675/ This is some outrigger canoes at Kwai Hai http://bikepics.com/pictures/2068678/ It was a beautiful day for exploration. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) Phelonius |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by drharveys on 09/27/10 at 06:01:21 Looks great! With all those bikes, the Big Island seems to be the logical choice. Still, it's a shame the interisland superferry was shut down. |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by babyhog on 09/27/10 at 07:26:06 Well, we had a beautiful week last week, highs in the 90's (although the mornings were chilly 60). Weather turned over the weekend, and it looks like fall is arriving here. :( Good news is that I'll be able to pull up your beautiful Paradise pics and feel the warmth. Keep 'em coming.... plz. |

Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by youzguyz on 09/28/10 at 09:59:47 Phelonius, The worse part of riding a motorcycle around Hawaii, is running out of roads to explore. Good thing you are on the Big Island as home base, and can go to the other islands as well. Back when I was young, it was a problem (I was there 1975 on Oahu and had a TS250 Savage, in the Navy, and poor). Now, I'm old and could probably forget most of the roads and ride them again and again without that problem. :D I envy you.. |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by kimchris1 on 09/28/10 at 12:10:14 Phelonius, I will gladly enjoy a ride along the Hood Canal as well as trip to Hurricane Ridge and Mt. St. Helens, once I can ride again as well as bike is fixed. For now am still in Ca and enjoying the warm temps and the river.. OOO almost river time. It is so nice to be able to be out past dark at the river and not have to be coverd in clothes... ;) kim |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by Spiff on 09/28/10 at 12:15:48 Last December, I had the pleasure of spending a week on the Big Island. I rented a HD Softail Classic for five days. Let me tell you, that bike was quite different from an LS650! How I wish I could have had an S40 there instead of the Harley, but the only shop that would rent to me was the HD dealership in Kailua Kona. Despite the bike (which was too loud, too heavy, too sluggish, and had too much vibration), I had a good time on it. I especially liked the Saddle Road and the ride up to the Mauna Kea observation station. Too bad I didn't have my S40; I would have taken it up to the Mauna Kea summit on the dirt road, something I was unwilling to do on the rental HD. Anyway, I'm headed back to Hawaii in February for one week on Oahu and another on Maui. I'm planning on renting a Honda Shadow 750 on Maui for a week from the Island Riders folks there. Here's some of my favorite pics from the Big Island: A self-portrait at the Waipio Valley overlook past the King Kamehameha statue in Kapaau that you also visited: http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk239/Spiff666/Hawaii%202009/BigIsleValleySpiff-1.jpg The HD beast of a bike that I rented: http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk239/Spiff666/Hawaii%202009/HD_Beast.jpg My helmet outfitted with a video camera: http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk239/Spiff666/Hawaii%202009/Helmet_camera.jpg |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by drharveys on 09/28/10 at 19:47:20 Thanks Spiff -- I'll be going to Maui in December and I'll check out Island Riders. I also found a place that rents the Piaggio 500cc 3 wheel scooter. Heck, it's cheaper than golf on that island! ;D |

Love that island!! If you have never been.. Make sure you do the road to Hanna, and VERY early in the morning if you are inclined to appreciate corners at a slightly elevated velocity. You can check out the scenery on the way back! The road up to Haleakala can be quite challenging as well. Turn and burn on the way up, enjoy scenery on the way down. |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by Spiff on 09/29/10 at 05:47:21 Both routes are on my agenda. And thanks for the tips. I want to see a sunset from the top of the volcano, so at least one trip down will be in the dark. |

Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by Southpaw on 09/30/10 at 20:56:19 Very nice Phelonius. We'll be thinking of you when the leaves turn from gold to brown and the faceshields start fogging up here in Mo. :P |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by mick on 10/01/10 at 00:35:53 Doc, that left arm needs to be straight, you will be lucky to hit 180 yards with a bent left arm, I'm not being mean ,but it will improve your game, feet should be apart to the width of your shoulders. And keep your bloody head down. One more thing Doc,if you don't play very often try using the interlocking grip, instead of the over lap. Just a few friendly tips from a golf lover ( 8 handicap ) I did have it down to a 3 for a short while,to low for me I happend to have three good rounds in the same month. |
Title: Re: More pics from paradise Post by drharveys on 10/06/10 at 08:39:49 Thanks for the advice, Mick! I'll try it out as soon as I can get back on a course. By way of excuse, it was over 90 degrees out, and I was on the back nine... |
