Title: Newfoundland's "Dragon" Post by PerrydaSavage on 10/06/10 at 09:02:14 Hi everyone ... here in Eastern Nfld. we have a very scenic stretch of road known as the CBS Highway/"Old Road" ... Route 60, which is an old rural highway was re-surfaced this summer and is now AWESOME! the 30km section between Holyrood (about 45 min. Ride from St. John's) and Cupid's Crossing twists and turns, snaking along the coastline thru a dozen or more quaint rural villages ... well worth the visit if you all ever Ride up this way. Here's a map; http://maps.google.ca/maps/empw?url=http:%2F%2Fmaps.google.ca%2Fmaps%3Fhl%3Den%26ie%3DUTF8%26ll%3D47.478232,-53.228073%26spn%3D0.254318,0.526657%26z%3D11%26output%3Dembed&hl=en&gl=ca> Check out the Google "Street View" you can virtually Ride this Route if you like! |

Title: Re: Newfoundland's "Dragon" Post by PerrydaSavage on 10/06/10 at 11:57:56 Not too bad ... averaging 50deg F (10deg C) to 60deg F (15deg C) ... lately we've had a lot of sunny clear days and temps have gotten into the high 60's, low 70's on occassion ... great Autumn Riding conditions up here for the past few weeks (couple days before, during & after recent Hurricane Igor being the exception!) |

Title: Re: Newfoundland's "Dragon" Post by Phelonius on 10/06/10 at 16:59:40 For those of you who ride Oregon, if you like switchbacks, try the OLD Makenzie road between Sisters and Blue river. It goes up a box canyon and when it gets to the end, the road builder simply switchbacked up the end of the box so that it comes out at the lava field behind Three Sisters Mountains. Ride it soon or it will be snowed in. If you go there, learn the story of the postal delivery man who used to ski the route and how he met his end at the top of the pass. The foundations of his old cabin are still there. Phelonius |

Sounds cool, may have to try that someday. If I don't forget. Which knowing me, is somewhat likely... :-? |
