Title: HD Exhaust Clamps
Post by EJID on 10/29/10 at 20:38:04

Looking to replace the automotive u-bolt style clamps I have on my exhaust with some flat HD style clamps. Can anyone tell me if these are the ones others have used? Seller claims they are 1 3/4" clamps for 1984 and up HDs.

I used this clamp and did have to file a bit from the inside where the two pinch surfaces come together. I have an after market thin wall muffler so stock or heaver wall wouldn't need anything. They're strong well made and cheap.    http://www.jpcycles.com/product/4400250

Harley clamps work pretty good if you are still within their clamping range.   They develop more grip than tab style clamps do.

But if you do not have clearance between the halves -- if they come together then they go solid on themselves and clamp nothing at all.

Add some shim sheet metal to the back of the clamp joint to increase the diameter of the joint (sorta out of sight) if you are loosing all the gap.

Should have gone to the 99 cent store, you could have saved a penny :)
That's a good find and a shot of VHT will make look like the 10 buck clamps.

If you're near a Harley dealer stop by and ask for some Dyna clamps...the shop guy came back and handed them to me I asked "how much?" and he said "nothin".

These "torca" clamps are the same.  at work when ever someone changes exhaust to a after market, and they dont pick up their stock exhaust we rob the torca clamps.  On the touring models I have to sometimes pull the left pipe to change the tire or other situations they come in handy.  Torque spec is 45 to 60 foot pounds.  60 is brand new, 45 is rusty and old.  sucks when they break because of rust. its a knuckle buster.

They look so strong & well made, I think you got a good deal. A decent hose clamp for a heater hose under the hood costs $1.50.
Unless someone has a good source for hose clamps. Harbor Freight sells trashy hose clamps, Or, at least the assorted box was,, OHH but it was cheap! Itll take a long time to find places to use those gutless hose clamps.
