Title: best place to live Post by mick on 11/04/10 at 15:57:00 According to the UN something or other Norway was voted the best place in the world to live, for the best quality of life, for a record 8th year in a row. Oil rich Norway with it's 81.0 years of life expectancy, average income $58810 per year (Dollars)and 12.6 years of schooling .Has now topped the" Human development index"for all but two years since 2001. Next country's after NORWAY AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND IRELAND U.S.A. Wow the US beat out Canada this year first time I think. |

Title: Re: best place to live Post by Paladin. on 11/04/10 at 16:35:44 BullPucky! There is not such thing as any BEST. "Best" depends on what you want. Live in Norway? Get real! It is bad enough that I have actually seen frost in the winter. And rain? YUCK! |
Title: Re: best place to live Post by bill67 on 11/04/10 at 16:57:20 Genoa City Wisconsin works best for me, 4 seasons and all. ;) You don't get bored that way. |
Title: Re: best place to live Post by Skid Mark on 11/04/10 at 17:43:16 So far Calgary's pretty good. I'm going to ride to work tomorrow. Once the weather turns, I'll be agreeing with Phelinous. |

the reason the US will never be number one is because you have no medical care for the people,a few yes ,but there is still 48 mmillion without health care, unlike europe, where everyone has it. I did not make the list the HDI (human developement index) and another biggie ,life expectancy is shorter here because of Obesity, and the godawful food you eat, I think a burger and fries is a main staple here. |
Title: Re: best place to live Post by justin_o_guy2 on 11/04/10 at 21:54:36 So, what are ya sayin, Mick? All those people, teachers, newscasters & such, tellin me I am a free person, that I live in THE country most responsible for the wealth of the world than any other, all these things were LIES? All those times I was told I was being raised in the land of opportunity & land of the free & home of the brave & the Worlds Boy Scout & all that, that stuff was Lies? & Why did you want to come here, again? Why didnt you head for one of the countries above us? |

Title: Re: best place to live Post by PerrydaSavage on 11/05/10 at 00:40:04 Well, I kinda like it here in Newfoundland ... we do get a good 6 months of Riding/year up here ... but Best place??? Nahhhhh ... it's home, but if I had a choice offa the List posted earlier, then I'd take Australia; Big country, population about same as Canada and the few Aussies I've personally met remind me very much of Nflders ... and at this point in my life, I could do away with winter altogether. |
Title: Re: best place to live Post by lukeduck on 11/05/10 at 08:50:28 Ahhhh Mick, you are a bit off re: the staple American diet. I think A double cheeseburger, very large order of fries, and a very large chocolate shake (total about 9 zillion calories, mostly fats and sugars) is more like it ;).---Luke |
Title: Re: best place to live Post by buttgoat1 on 11/05/10 at 09:40:30 and the Useless Nations matters how? They just put Iran on the womans rights council!! Bury a woman up to her neck for modesty when they stone her?? And our prez apologizes to them cuz American women make less $ than a man?? PFFFT they are just a bunch of third world dicator wannabes wanting to carve off a piece of the US for their own personal bank account. |

I think you're about right, but my favorite is when people order all that and then substitute a "Diet Coke/Pepsi" for the shake :-? like that's going to save them ;D |

Title: Re: best place to live Post by Jerry Eichenberger on 11/05/10 at 13:54:34 Norway and the rest of Scandinavia is about the last place I'd want to live. So what if you live 1.3489 years longer - all the loger to freeze. And don't forget those wonderful winter days of about 6 hours, max, of daylight up there. Worse the farther north you go. As others have said, there is no best place. From May till October, I'd take northern Germany, around Kiel (At least I speak enough of the language to get along - I don't speak a syllable of Norwegian, Danish, Swedish). Wonderfully long summer evenings, and warm enough to be comfortable in the summer. Not far to visit some other places in Europe; just a day's drive to France or Poland. From October to May, maybe the Bahamas - low cost of living, near enough to the U.S. to get back for family emergencies, the U.S. Dollar is the currency, nice people, and the like. |
Title: Re: best place to live Post by buttgoat1 on 11/05/10 at 14:13:51 Mick, your original post referenced a UN report, thats why it means nothing to me. |

Title: Re: best place to live Post by mick on 11/05/10 at 16:05:48 OK guys befor you go jumping all over me, (to late) I did not come up with those facts and numbers. If it was up to me I would live in Arizona, almost moved there years ago,but the wife at the time didn't like the heat. Iether there or Nevada, new Mexoco, would be ok,I loved SCal but way to expensive to live there,be ok If I had stayed in the house I baught that would be paid for by now , once again a very fickle wife wanted to move, Well she can move wherever the fu+k she wants to I don't give a sh1t. She might be beautifull ,but that really does not matter. How does that saying go ? beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes all the way to the bone ;) |
Title: Re: best place to live Post by buttgoat1 on 11/05/10 at 20:28:31 looks like there are lots of other reasons to live somewhere other than how it ranked by some number cruncher |

Title: Re: best place to live Post by justin_o_guy2 on 11/06/10 at 05:45:24 since 71,, how many times have I moved? YIKES! I used to drive a Biggo 4 door Ford with a 2 Jimmy Hoffa trunk & I made it a Point to not own more than would fit in it, cuz I never knew when I was gonna want to move. Ive lived in at least 20 places since 71, Just ran thru the most memorable & got to 20 when I got to where I am now. I probably forgot a couple. Next move,, I want my address carved in marble. |
