Just vote once for your correct age span.

I have a curiosity as to the centers of the two lumps of the bimodal distribution that this thing is likely to show.

Fewer motorcycles for those who have minor children?  I would expect.

Maybe in the not too far future, we can start one of those  mobility scooter clubs after we hang up our bikes. You know "We get around on our Hoveround" We can wear colors and ride in parades and stuff.

I still have my old 2 wheel Zappy scooter for when I get too old to ride ! I even have a seat kit for it that I never put on. I wonder if they make a trike kit for it. I mite need at least 3 wheels by then !

Sluggo,
I assume by "new fangled" you mean the kind that you don't have to crank so that you can get the operator and tell her who you want to talk to.

Heck, my new phone is so fancy I get its attention by hitting a button on the side of it and tell it "Call Nancy" and it does ......  and this is the cheap bottom of the heap LG phone.

I wish my wife worked that way !!

Bunch of old farts like me. I'm trying to imagine if we ever had a rally.  Probably spend as much time talking about health problems as motorcycles. ;D

Starin' down the barrel of 50 :( ... been told I could easily pass for someone 10+ years younger ... and most days I feel a lot younger too, but this year has been tuff on me personally, so these days not so much ...

Actually, we do have a yearly rally in the NC mountains.   Mostly we talk about scraping pegs, fixing minor bike issues and occasionally some minor road rash.

I hope nobody ever refers to my age as "_____ years young"  because that's when you know you're old.  Nobody says that about someone who is actually young.

To young to quite, but to old to give a dang. Turning 62 December 23rd.

Well, if anyone asks if the Savage is a beginners bike or a girly bike, you now have proven knowledge that it is really the "preferred old fart's motorcycle".

Distribution is losing the bimodal effect as more and more members ring in -- could pass as "approaching a normal curve" status even now.

Title: Re: OK, we want to get an age distribution of memb
Post by Serowbot on 12/02/10 at 15:19:01

Instead of an "Ol' farts" bike,...  could we refer to it as an experienced veteran motorcyclists bike?....

I'd feel a lot better about that...
It might even give me the willpower to hold in my farts in public...
You never know... :-?...

I should get 3 votes. Bought my first Savage at 35, my second at 48, & my third at 52. Keeping the last one for a back-up & my wife & daughter to ride. :)

I bought my V-Star 950T at 56, & rode it 1200 miles in 2 days to get it home. 8-)

Not growing old, is that why we go up to the mountains every year?

If we survive, we have proven to ourselves that we aren't old yet?

I'm still 26-28 in my heart, my hair has just started turning funny colors ....

http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2010/tables/10s0116.pdf

number of deaths, age group 55-64 and 65-74

All causes:  281,401 ... 390,093

Malignant neoplasms:   101,454 (36%) ... 137,554 (35%)
Major cardiovascular:    80,714 (29%) ...  119,102 (31%)
Chronic lower respiratory: 12,375 (4.4%) ... 28,236 (7.2%)
Motor vehicle accidents: 4,518 (1.6%) ... 2,916 (0.75%)

Vehicle accidents are not a major factor of death for old farts.
Stress IS a major factor of death -- and the motorcycle reduces stress.  I NEED to go on tour.

p.s. -- for those 75 and over:  4,146 people die of vehicle accidents, 14,258 fall while walking -- walking is three times worse than motorcycling.

You have to look at it differently.
You can retire at any age that you can afford or adapt your lifesyyle to
You will still be able to draw ss at 62,....its only the amount changing.
You can draw (w/o penalty) from your 401k at age 59 1/2

I semi retired at 59 1/2,...drew some on my 401k,.....but had to changed my lifestyle quite a bit.
When I fully retired at 62, it was like I got a big raise,... started drawing ss (at the lesser amount)
When I turned 64, I moved to Oregon, (born and raised in Ca) and that was like I got a huge raise (lower cost of living)
When I was 65 medicare kicked in,.....kinda like I got another small raise thru less expensive healthcare.
Remember, a small sacrifice early, goes a long way later,...trust me!

An old gentlemen of 102 years old walks into an insurance office asking for life insurance.

agent: I'm sorry sir, but due to your age, we can't insure you. We feel you are too big of a risk at 102 years old.

old timer: So because I am over a hundred you won't insure me?

agent: I'm afraid so sir.

old timer: Tell me young man, why exactly am I too big of a risk? I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't do anything that is considered life threatening.

agent: It's your age sir. Even with your very healthy lifestyle, we just can't risk insuring you.

Old timer: Would you insure a 65 year old?

agent: yes

old timer: How many of them have passed away in the past year?

agent looks up the statistics and quotes the rather sizable number of natural deaths of 65 year old men.

old timer: Now look up how many 102 year old men have passed away.

The agent does so, and notices the very small number compared to his previous search.

old timer: So you're now telling me that you will insure someone who is more likely to die at 65 than someone who is less likely to die at 102?

The agent granted the policy.
