Title: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by kimchris1 on 12/04/10 at 19:49:12 After 8 1/2 months I am soo happy to report that today Genie and I were on the road.. OMG.. It felt better than the first time. Hubby got the new sprocket on and took her for a ride. Then it was my turn. I rode up and down our street a couple times, then was time to get all my gear on. This gave me the opportunity to finally wear my new modular helmet as well. I love it. The Pink boots came out of storage as well as my chaps, vest and heavier leather jacket. It was 44 degrees with lots of sun. I knew right away I needed to do some practicing before heading back out too far. So up to the school about a mile away. Hubby came up in the car along with our lil doxie, Oscar. Oscar watched and watched as I practiced my turns and tried to perfect the dreaded U turn. Hubby was heading to the hardware store so I followed on Genie. I faced the 4 way intersection where my accident occured back in March. I made a right with no problems. I will admit that instead of coming back to the 4 way and having to make a left, I came thru the parking lots of the grocery store and got back to hwy from there. I am not ready nor sure if or when I will ever be to do a left turn at that intersection. One step at a time. I came back and parked her. My thumb was doing ok yet did not want to press my luck. Yesterday my Dr took me out of the brace and, I am now in a thumb splint. I have several thumb exercises to do on the hour as well as other times during the day. I also have physical theraphy 3 times a week for 4 weeks. This has been a very long process yet Kim and Genie are back.. Hugs.. :) |
Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by kimchris1 on 12/04/10 at 20:12:55 I wanted to thank the following people for helping me with parts as well as giving me helpful information along the way. Jrm8486, Earlytimz, Piglet aka Babyhog, Hashbrown, Crabpainter, Verslagen1, Jive FSO, WD. And last but not least chris 8160. He is new to the forum and my hubby. He did the wrenching as well as gave me encouragement to get back in the saddle. I would like to express my gratitude to all that have wished me well these past long months. This is a great forum and is full of some of the best people on this planet. Your forever in my heart and thanks again for all your help.. :-* :-* :-* kim |

Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by Fuschia on 12/04/10 at 20:30:15 All right! That's great Kim! Looks like we're both on the road now! I hear you about being nervous going by where your accident was. I also went by where my accident was last weekend. We didn't stop and I drew a sigh of relief after I passed by, but I did it! Really glad to hear you're on the road again! 8-) |

Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by kimchris1 on 12/05/10 at 04:56:21 Thanks everyone and I plan to do just that Serowbot.. The last thing I ever want or need is to have that rubber side come up again.. I am very fortunate to be able to ride again and that helps keep things in perspective. :) kim Oh and my avitar has nothing on me now. ;) |

Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by kimchris1 on 12/05/10 at 12:07:11 I/m back in the saddle again Out where a friend is a friend Where the longhorn cattle feed On the lowly gypsum weed Back in the saddle again Ridin' the range once more Totin' my old .44 Where you sleep out every night And the only law is right Back in the saddle again Whoopi-ty-aye-oh Rockin' to and fro Back in the saddle again Whoopi-ty-aye-yay I go my way Back in the saddle again I'm back in the saddle again Out where a friend is a friend Where the longhorn cattle feed On the lowly gypsum weed Back in the saddle again Ridin' the range once more Totin' my old .44 Where you sleep out every night And the only law is right Back in the saddle again Whoopi-ty-aye-oh Rockin' to and fro Back in the saddle again Whoopi-ty-aye-yay This was sung by Gene Autry back in the 1940's I believe. It is a great song. He was singing about the saddle on a horse yet I can adapt it for my bike as well.. ;) kim |

Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by photojoe on 12/07/10 at 06:49:55 Welcome back KC. Feels good doesn't it? I went from late September (last year) to March not riding while recovering from rotator cuff surgery. First ride I took brought me through the infamous intersection. Had to. I still cringe when I approach it. |
Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by FlybysBlvd on 12/07/10 at 09:26:49 You go girl! I was off the bike for awhile in June, due to a mishap, and it felt so good to finally get back on again. Rubber down, shiny up ;D I wish it was at least 40 here and sunshine, but right now it's 24 >:( no riding for a while :( Congrats!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] |
Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by kimchris1 on 12/07/10 at 13:32:31 Thank you all so much.. Those of you that have had your down time realize how special this day was to me. I won't lie and tell you I wasn't nervous. I was and, yet it didn't take long for the nervousness to pass. It is getting ready to pour rain here any min and rest of week forecast is for rain as well. Genie is resting till we can again get out on the roadway. Thanks again and hugs and kisses to all.. Kim & Genie.. :-* :-* :-* :-* |

Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by Southpaw on 12/08/10 at 09:55:58 Glad to hear you're back on the road! Wishing you bright riding days, an extended riding season, and keep the rubber side down! :) Dan |
Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by drharveys on 12/08/10 at 13:32:56 Welcome back! You might look into a Wrist Rest or a Cramp-buster. They're little plastic tabs that ease the load on your throttle wrist or hand, might help for a thumb problem. They're just ten bucks, and don't hurt the bike if you try it and take it off. |
Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by Trippah on 12/09/10 at 06:11:40 Welcome back, and as discussed on this forum many years ago, there are simply some intersections and left turns that you have to go past and turn around for; too dangerous for sitting at. Glad the thumbs up is for real, you'll be back up to speed by next riding season for sure. Yeah :D |

Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by kimchris1 on 12/10/10 at 20:11:16 Ok ok.. I know I have dodged the pic for awhile. I will see if hubby will take the pic tomorrow. I am hoping we can take both the bikes out for a ride and get some pics along the way to post up as well. Mick I hope your not too close to a river as this storm is going to bring alot of rain in tomorrow evening their saying. Yes Piglet, the 5 1/2 inches of hair I had cut, really makes a difference with the fit of my helmet. Then again it is soo good to have helmet hair again.. ;) ;D ;D ;D kim |
Title: Re: Back on 2 wheels.... Post by mick on 12/10/10 at 22:39:20 We are not to close to a river so we are ok, one of our fields looks like a lake ,it's full of ducks and geese every morning.I would put some bass in there but it will be all gone in the spring, the end of our driveway is under about 6" of water,we will see what tomorrow brings. |
