Title: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by LANCER on 03/16/11 at 08:14:14 I have a little access to my computer and my fingers seem to be working without too many backups to correct spastick fingers. My son said he posted something about the accident but don't have time right now to find the post so will just do a quick and dirty. Road turned...I did not went to the grass to ride it out but front wheel found a hole somewhere so bike stopped and I did not...about 50 mph bruised R. kidney; several broken ribs and fractured #1 lumber vert. wearing hard frame body brace for 6 wks +/- and then soft brace for some time Dr ordered daily body massage by at least 2 extremely attractive physical therapists ;D |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by LANCER on 03/16/11 at 08:17:05 when can I ride again ... unknown depends on how good looking the the therapists are of course...could take a couple of years from that perspective 8-) |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by splash07 on 03/16/11 at 08:17:36 Even keeping it rubber side down cant stop all the gremlins. Hang in there buddy. Im just down the way in Chucktown so let me know if you need anything. |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by odmanout on 03/16/11 at 08:22:07 Sorry to hear of this. Crap on the road? BTW those therapists may look good but they are gonna hurt ya. |

Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by Smokestack on 03/16/11 at 10:07:39 Best wishes from a new guy. Hope the recovery goes well. My wife works as an office manager at a physio clinic and has an interesting theory on therapists. There are basically two types: The real big, scary lookin' ones that can intimidate you into doing your therapy program, and the drop-dead gorgeous ones that get you to do the work without thinkin' about it 'cause your mind is...... ahem..... elsewhere. Here's hoping you get the latter! |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by randyradio on 03/16/11 at 10:14:21 Another Salute from a New Guy! Salute! I had wondered what had ahppened to you. I even got your name from a fellow lister and googles you in SC and called what was your son's house. Lovely daughter in law told me you was busting out on Fri last week and to please call back. Found out we're the same age. Well never seen the emails pile up like the ones for you today. I got some great jokes for you but with dem ribs broken you'd be like break dancing or something and maybe relapse. I kept wondering where's dat Lancer guy??? and thinking where are we gonna get another "Guru" in the off season. ha Nice hearing about those therapists and that you've got your carbonation back. Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by gerald.hughes on 03/16/11 at 11:27:09 Add my best wishes to everyone else here on the site. Recovery time always seems to go twice as slow as regular time, and about ten times as slow as riding time, but it does pass. Hang in there, and you will be back in the saddle. |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by mick on 03/16/11 at 11:50:16 Good luck mate, and a speedy recovery. And please don't do that again, you know how now ,once is all the practice you need. Mick |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by weracerc on 03/16/11 at 11:59:31 dude! darn! sorry to hear about your agro-riding experiment gone bad....hopefully you will be back to 100% in time to do some riding this season......i think about how fast my bike slows down when i crack the throttle - then i think about how long it takes to stop it when i apply the brakes.....always wondering if I will be able to slow down enough or stop soon enough to avoid "the big one".....there is no telling how bad i would have been hurt if that had happened to me......bike stops but you dont.....i doubt it would be able to eject me that easy i'd be all twisted up in the handlebars....ouch! |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by Wolfman on 03/16/11 at 12:31:13 Glad to see you back and basicly in one pieace and kicking. Bad abut the accident, good about the therapist, but good god man, most importantly what about the BIKE?? ;D |

Some famous poet said once,"Troubles come not singly, but as sparrows." Actually he may have said it more than once. You can tell by the number of posts that you have friends in your corner; most you'll never meet. Now can we get a picture of the bike, please? Barry |

We all see the brutal collisions in football games and think "How did he survive that?"...and that's at twenty miles per hour...with body armor. I have some first hand experience with recovery and I know how much pain you must be in. Hang in there and keep us all posted. Any idea of the damage to your bike yet? |

Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by Oldfeller on 03/17/11 at 02:52:04 Mike, Sorry don't begin to cover it -- I am in shell shock. Having watched you ride for so many years and knowing all the stuff we have done together the thought of you going down at speed leaves my mind all boggled and torn up emotionally. I have seen you ride the grass before, so I know exactly which scenario you describe -- you were riding it out on the grassy shoulder and hit a drainage dip and flew off. I am praying for you, old friend. I still haven't wrapped my mind around it yet completely, but I am praying for you. Kelly PS Nancy sends her regards -- she is quite upset for your wreck and all happening so close together. |

Got that right dude. Once is definitely enough; not sure about about the Dragon ride....... it's going to be a close one my be guess right not is that I will be there but only for for VERY gentle riding; it all depends on how fast and complete my lumbar vertebrae heals. I have been blesses with strong hard bones and a body that heals quickly....pray that this continues speaking of therapists; my primary girl was Kim..... one hour with here was worth weeks of time with anyone else...... talk about hot; dang she could melt glass. need to go for the real deal for healing; pray without ceasing. God has the whole world in his hands, including my puny little bodyl take care |

Its not easy to do when everyone thinks you are going to break if you breath wrong or something. When released from the hospital the doc said I could drive if I felt like it so what's the freaking deal ? Yep, I hurt, inspit of the maxed out drugs but when gets a but low it just feels good to get outside ....ya know ! Ya'll take care and DO RIDE SAFELY ! |

I was thinking about a young lady at the time .... what's your excuse ? Guess this means our route 66 ride is off another year ? Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by Boofer on 03/22/11 at 16:51:20 I replied last week, but good to hear the Dr isn't worried about you. When they tell you you can drive, it's encouraging. Be careful with regular movements such as showering and reaching back in the 'fridge. Go slow and heal. This is from someone with a terrible back. Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by LANCER on 03/24/11 at 20:49:49 Tomorrow starts the hard core therapy. To get me back to a functional human again The past few days I've actually felt like a real person instead of just one big ball of pain Next week I get a new CT scan to see how the lumbar vert is healing... That's the biggie right now If that is good then I can get rid of this brace and take a real shower again... Might even get back to my own place again...that would be nice ! Thanks for all the prayers gang ! |

Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by LANCER on 03/28/11 at 11:34:19 Went to rehab and they said I could do more already; strength, flex and function than they can teach so no need for their services. That was good news and made me feel good. All the workouts with #1 son the past few months has obviously worked well for me. My physical fitness may very likely have saved me more serious damage at the time of impact too. Can't ever know for sure but seems to make sense. Today I had a new CT scan and will talk to the doc on Wed. Hope I am doing well enough to get rid of this hard shell brace. |

I have read where one being in good physical shape helps ones body to heal faster. Now we know it is true. So what is the first thing you have planned to do when you get rid of the turtle shell? ;) Man I could have fun autographing and drawing on that.. ;) I wish you all the best in your continuation of your recovery.. :-* :-* :-* kim |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by CeliaMarie on 03/28/11 at 15:53:07 Sounds like you have a great team working with you.. get a picture of you all together - it's great to remember times like that, esp when you do so well.. Congrats, Lancer! |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by Boofer on 03/28/11 at 18:36:06 Lancer, If you had been wearing the hardsheel brace the EMT folks could have just flipped you over like a turtle and you could have ridden off. In our prayers. ;) |

Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by LANCER on 04/01/11 at 10:49:14 Saw the doc yesterday; CT scan looks good and I am healing according to plan but must still wear this blasted hard shell brace for the full 3 months. It seems that the fracture on the lumbar vertebrae is in a VERY CRITICAL position and if I am not careful it could be very bad for this very active dude. So it is a very SMART SALUTE AND A HARDY "YES SIR" and a promise to follow all of the rules set down lest I end up needing a motorcycle with hand controls only since my legs would be totally paralyzed otherwise. NOT GOOD. So I will be a very good boy and do everything they say. In the meantime my CS-1 is ready to start production....YEA !!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by LANCER on 04/10/11 at 03:05:26 yep, healing is going well....it's just a slow going process for this one.. considering that screwing up could mean nonfunctional legs is a big piece encouragement to follow the rules EXACTLY and no shortcuts....the bone needs time to mend properly so time it is then. My last appointment with the Rehab doc went well; he said don't come back cause you dont need me any more. GOOD NEWS !! |

You get bonus ones for not leaving bruises on the nurses. ;D ;D From having injuries to myself in the past besides my mc accident, it is easy to want to move around, do what you think you can do. Well at times that may work. Yet again, times it won't and your body will tell you that. Take care of that back man. It will heal quicker if you rest and give it the time it needs. Ok so your getting restless, well just think how restless your going to be if you re injur that back and take longer to recouperiate. Now be a good boy, close your eyes... :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* Hope the week brings you closer to being recovered as well as some relief in your pain.. Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by KristenAnn on 04/29/11 at 09:16:53 I went down on April 7th and severly bruised my ribs so i know what you mean by it only hurts when i laugh. I am gaining but sometimes i forget they are there and move wrong and feel like it did in the beginning. Glad to hear that you are healing well. |
Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by kimchris1 on 04/29/11 at 11:53:33 Lancer, no way are you going to stop breathing. All these kisses I have been sending you, their so powerful your lungs will forever be full of air.. Now you make sure that P.T. knows how much the trip to the Dragon means to you. She is sure to be good coming all the way from Ca. to you.. Sounds like money well spent. :-* :-* :-* Kristneann, take it easy on the ribs. I had a rib injury as well. It took me about 6 weeks before I could lie down in bed right. Breathing was difficult at times too.. Hang in there.. Hugs to you as well. :) kim |

Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by Boofer on 05/06/11 at 19:27:23 Hey Lancer, You are going to have more pages than the (Looking furtively from left to right) oil thread. Was it a movie that said once, "A man's got to know his limitations." Stay within yours and heal fully. Best wishes from Mississippi. :) |

Ya know the "Legend of Rex" still has a lot of pages left to go, but it doesn't need to be filled with THOSE kind of highlights! Hope you're back in the saddle real soon! ;) |

Title: Re: Lancer functional .... well, sort of :) Post by jack rabbit on 05/14/11 at 11:25:39 Lancer, hope you come back 100%. Motorcycles can be a dangerous hobby. I guess your store is down while you are on the mend. Was lookin' to upgrade to your carb and cam from stock. Let me know if and when you get back on line, until then take it easy and dont anything to aggravate your injuries. JR |
