Title: What's your favorite tool? Post by Fujisawa Rob on 04/26/11 at 09:56:26 I vote angle grinder since I think the shower of sparks is way cool. Haven't used my little 90A welder yet. Second choice would be a drill press, one of the best things I ever bought. How about you? |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by Yonuh Adisi FSO on 04/26/11 at 10:01:39 I chose "Other" because you didn't have an "All Of The Above" option. Well all of the above except for welder because I don't have one, but I hope to acquire one soon. |

Oh yeah, those bench grinders come in very handy don't they? I got mine a couple of years ago as a birthday present from my mother-in-law, I have no idea how I got along without it. |

I just bought this: http://www.harborfreight.com/90-amp-flux-wire-welder-98871.html $99 o/s + 2 year warranty, was under $120. Read the reviews! It is wire only, no gas. |

I bought this drill bit sharpener http://www.amazon.com/AJ-Drill-Bit-Sharpener-Jig/dp/B001Z0WFYS/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1303839863&sr=8-7[url]. Haven't set it up yet though. Somewhere I have a link with detailed instructions on how to use it. Can you tell I like Harbor Freight? I wouldn't be able to afford my auto hobby otherwise. |

I even used it on my shoes... I have a pair of boots with those deep tread soles, and the tread was perfect for collecting bits of gravel that stuck and would scratch my tile floors... So,.. I used the wirewheel to grind off the tread... still got tons of sole but no more rocks... ;)... Don't you hate those thick treads?... all they do is gather rocks and mud,... ...and god forbid if you step in doggy-doo... :-?... |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 04/26/11 at 11:00:27 ...and god forbid if you step in doggy-doo... Mite not wanna use the grinder to fix that, |

Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by Yonuh Adisi FSO on 04/26/11 at 11:15:48 I use my bench grinder for just about everything from sharpening my garden tools to shaping metal. I don't have a wire wheel or a buffing wheel for it yet but I have two kinds of stone, a pretty coarse one and a rather fine one. |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by mick on 04/26/11 at 13:45:29 I see no one has voted yet, perhaps you need to name a few more tools.. number 1 for me would be a table saw, then a wood lathe, band saw, radial arm saw.jig saw,. router.drill press.. I do use my bench grinder to help sharpen other tools. |

I agree with Mick, my primary tool collection is based around woodworking/construction and I don't have alot of metal working tools so I had to vote "Other" but I do love my BFH!!! ;D |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by verslagen1 on 04/26/11 at 14:31:36 BFH is that 'big f'ing hammer' or 'bind, file, hammer' ? |

Was thinking the former. I figured these were more tools that mechanic types would have. I don't have any large woodworking tools. Just carpenter portables like a circular saw, sabre saw, etc. |

Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by Ed L. on 04/26/11 at 15:43:21 Had to vote for the drill press as my favorite. I just love flinging a piece of metal across the shop because i didn't clamp it down. I really get off on my metal lathe but it wasn't on the list. |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by bill67 on 04/26/11 at 15:58:57 My favorite tool is not on the list. :) |

Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by Boofer on 04/26/11 at 16:56:31 If you've never seen Red Green you won't understand that "Any tool can be the right tool". So I guess I choose "other/any". ;D |

Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by BurnPgh on 04/26/11 at 18:14:43 wire wheel or lathe. Nothing like freshly machined metal, and i just love watching a wire wheel turn a crummy rusted whatever into a shiny brand new looking whatever. |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by babyhog on 04/27/11 at 05:27:47 I voted BFH of all the ones listed. Have a little baby hammer too, but size matters! But my favorite (that I can mention here) is my Router. I'm liking my old fashioned hand draw-knife too, but I'd still have to go with the router. Since we're on the subject of tools, when I got divorced 13 years ago, I told everyone I wanted tools for Christmas! I mean, all the tools were his and I let him take the majority of them. (Kept me a BFH though lol) So I got a jigsaw, circular saw, screwdrivers, etc. Got some laughs, but it was awesome. When I met my current husband, he said he knew he had to marry me when we were working on something and he said he wished he had his line-level and some Tapcons. I said "I have both!" |

Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by Wolfman on 04/27/11 at 14:31:56 MY Second favorite Tool is my mini-mag flashlight. You can guess at the first...lol Im surprised noone else has mentioned the flashlight. Check the gas, oil, battery, loose connections, look for lost parts/bolts/washers/ect. Never leave home without it. Even got one of those hand crank types in the saddle bags for emergencies. Multi tip screw drivers with the bit in the handle are nice as well as the lowly cresant wrench. Lets not forget the tire pressure gauge and the 12v air compressor either...lol |

Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by Paladin. on 04/28/11 at 06:04:08 My favorite tool has to be the one I nearly always have with me, a Leatherman JuiceC2: http://www.leatherman.com/product/Juice_C2 |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by groupus on 04/28/11 at 08:18:27 Hammer, its the most fun ;D I've used all of these and a whole lot more, but I'm to poor/young to own most of them :-/. Thats why I got my BFW and the metal lab at school. duck tape NEEDS to be on the list; its the handyman's secret weapon! and the Red Green show is my favorite ever oh wait, I did make a bench grinder in metal lab, but doesn't have a motor. |

Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by prsavage on 04/28/11 at 10:58:17 I chose other as my favourite (read most used) is my 12" miter saw. I have a B&D straight miter chop style with a 13A motor. I am looking to upgrade to a Mikita 12" dual bevel sliding compound miter saw with an offset 13A motor. Soon I hope. |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by LostArtist on 04/28/11 at 11:56:47 any of the ones I DON'T have to buy to finish a repair. |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by JohnBoy on 04/28/11 at 12:13:35 Hammer! You can fix anything with a hammer, including wives and bosses! |
Title: Re: What's your favorite tool? Post by klx650sm2002 on 04/29/11 at 02:03:45 I had to vote other as my favourite tool is my vernier caliper. Clive W :) |

If I could use one often enough to stay brushed up on using one,, I had it down pat for a while, then didnt need it & forgot how to read the blasted thing, so I got a digital, & the batteries die in the heat in the shop, so I got a dial caliper,, I still use the vernier for comparisons.. & sometimes Ill even stick a new battery in the digital for the Push of a Button metric conversion it does. Handy when shimming the valves on the W. |
