Title: nice wedding today
Post by mick on 04/29/11 at 13:15:18

My Sister stayed up all night so as to catch it LIVE, I got up at 7:30 and got all the recaps.Well worth watching if you are a brit, I loved his Aston Martin , I think his brother Harry stuck a learners plate on the AM. Overall a very nice wedding and the bride looked beautifull,If ever there was a family who needed a beauty injection it's the Winsors.
I wish them luck .
PS,I wonder how much that cost the public ? I know security alone was 30 million.

It reminded me of my wedding,There was a lot of people all over the place at the county court house that day,The security was very good with my father in-law leading the way with his shotgun.

Yes, Miz Starlifter and I both watched the re-play on BBC. The pomp and pagentry was awesome.

Nice to see something other than war, murder, and storm damage/deaths.

It's their money, and we get to see it for free. ;D

That's right Star, all that pomp and not one Yankee dollar involved.
If the Prince does his duty to queen and country the lovely Kate will have a child 9 months from today. Another reason to party.
It was very refreshing to watch something nice for a change.
I am not a royalist ,but I did bend a bit today and found myself feeling quite proud to be an Englishman.

So Mick, school this here yank on some English culture. It's my understanding thy the Queen/King have common over the British armed forces, how much command? Does the Queen have any other kind of powers over the English people? And how does she pay for all those fancy palaces and security and what not, how does the royal family have money/income?

I saw BBC America had an 8hr block dedicated to it, plus 2hrs of highlights.  I flipped to it twice about 30 mins apart and I think the choir was singing the same song both times and nobody was moving.  I just thought my wedding took forever!

I am not a British yet I feel so happy and upbeat seeing all the people coming out to greet, share and wish this couple on their wedding day. Better, it is a Royal Couple. Much tradition, symbol has been loss or neglected, yet England is preserving and keeping this one. Hat off to that. I pray and wish well for Prince William and Princess Catherine... as well as to all of us.

Royalty is just a parasite society has been taught to look up to & accept,, pretty twisted, really.

The queen is still the CinC of all military.
And she opens Parliment every year, the royals also host other royals from other country's, She is more or less Englands PR person.
If Britain does go to war (Like the Fauklands) the prime minister must first get the queens permission, it is allways given.
The PM pretty much runs the country.
The royals have such a long history ,almost a thousand years it would be a shame to break it all down, we did have a little german influence with Prince Albert ,Queen Victoria's husband.
The Queen gets a Salery nowdays and she pays taxes, she has to pay the help from her Salery.both boys are in the military and get paid.
The houses and estates were given to the royals over the last few hundred years, the crown jewels were gifts from other royals ,and visiters, over the last 500 years.
they are on display at the Tower of London.
Because of their long history the Queen is one of the richest women in the world.
She has to have lots of money just to pay for her hats. :)

Albert was German,in fact he couldn't speak English, but he was just the Queens consort, like Prince Philip is today.
Not a big influence, the Royals Sir name is Winsor, hardly german.

You might be right Justin, but unlike you and Americans in general you have no one to look up to,I know you hate Obama,
The British don't seem to mind, they could rebel if they wanted to get rid of them. So it really has nothing to do with you anyway.
Some of the Queens hats are older than this country.

I must be a bit sick,I wondered the same thing, but I wondered about Prince Philip poor old bugger is in his ninety's  I bet dollars to do-nuts he and the Queen were wearing depends, as for the choirboys, they are told to pee (while the Bishop watches) just before they enter the church.
PS,I thought I saw one kid who was actually going pee, his face had that look of great releaf. ;)

the Queen was born in England,so was her father, and his father,
Prince Philips heratage is greek,I think Lord Mountbatten was German.
yes there are a sprinkling of germans, greeks, even french, and possably a Spaniard in the works.Kinda like America, just a bunch of cur's. Royaly used to intermarry between countrys for diplomatic reasons, A german Prince fancyed a English Princess ,etc etc,

One more question Mick, why isn't the Queens hubby the king? I always thought the wives of kings of old were their queen. Is it because only the heir to the throne can hold the title?

I didn't watch it and not really interested.  However, in a time that the news only reports bad events it was good to see so much coverage of a  a a feel good story.
