Title: Lending your bike for safety course
Post by papi_ocho on 05/26/11 at 08:09:34

Got a good friend that needs to take the experienced riders course, because the Marine Corps said so. We both been in 12 plus years. He's been on hogs for 10 years or so.

The problem with his bike is that while attending the last rider course his clutch went out and they dropped him for it.

he's the only one in my unit {45 riders) that needs this one course for us to be 100% up to date on required training. Were also in the same section together. I feel like I can help all parties involved by doing this one thing.

Just wonder what the masses think!

I'm not sure of the question.
If you're asking.....would I loan my bike to my friend who is an experienced rider, my answer would be yes,......and I'd bet everyone would answer yes to the same question.

if that's the question, then YES. Just be sure to let him ride it for a little bit to get used to it before the test. Every bike is a little different.

And never let him forget his clutch went out   ;D

...marines are tough, they can push their harleys home.

I'd let an experienced friend use my bike to take the course. I've recently seen on craigslist where people are offering to rent out their scooter so inexperienced riders can pass the course. That is just wrong. If you can't pass on the bike you're gonna ride, you shouldn't be riding. In your case though, I would say yes. Just my opinion.

If he is a good friend, has the experience you say, and it is for a good cause.... I wouldn't have to think twice about saying "yes"!

My thoughts exactly, and I voted yes as well.

When I took my riding test there were 3 of us there. 1 was an older gentleman on a Road King that claimed he'd been riding for 20+ years, with his last bike being a Hyabusa. 2 was a younger kid on his first bike, a GSXR600 an 3 was me on my first bike, a S40.

Older guy went first and couldn't do the cone weave or u-turn w/o putting a foot down so he FAILED!!!

Watched the young kid go, and he had no problem but rode the line during the u-turn, still he PASSED.

I went last and worked through all the obstacles without problems, my only deduct was I had to accelerate to 20, then brake quickly once I crossed the line. With the location of our speedo, I didn't realize how much I accelerated and was going too fast. Took a bit more to stop me too. Instructor PASSED me, but commented that I was doing more than 20 when I crossed the line and need to watch my speed  ;D

I have a couple of friends and family members I would lend my ride to. But be aware--never loan something you cannot do without--either money or items. In business I've seen people sign on a note with someone else that we knew were no good. Even after telling them repeatedly that the responsibility is now theirs, they were still shocked when we asked them to pay a delinquent bill. AND they said they just signed so their friend/family could get whatever it was. They didn't know why they should pay. I have great faith in my fellow man, but there are those among us... :(

Sorry, I don't think loaning a bike to anyone is a good idea.

there;s a difference between a good friend and a good rider.

you can take my ride out, as long as you leave a 5000 dollar deposit.

If my friend needs my ride bad enough to ask it is his.  I can always buy or build another bike.

Or maybe he really isn’t my friend in which case the bike was a small price to pay to learn a valuable lesson.

"I can always buy or build another bike."

...can you buy or build another friend?

Two weekends ago our club sponsored an MSF course.  One of the members showed up on her Can-Am Spyder and couldn't take the class 'cause it was for two wheels.  I loaned her the Savage for the course.

She did so well that now she's regretting selling her two-wheeler!   ;D
