Title: I think I have a problem Post by LostArtist on 06/07/11 at 12:15:45 I like motorcycles, I like this board a lot, most of you all seem very cool. other boards really really suck and in real life, I don't like bikers, for the most part, I don't care about tattoos, I'm not against them, but whatever, I don't care about drinking from bar to bar, I don't live for the next 6 pack, the whole machismo crap that bikers bring with them (even the girls) pisses me off too. I like riding, I like wrenching, I like customizing and the art of the bike, I don't think that makes me your "brother" though. I don't know, maybe it's just all the 13 year old boys in 45 year old bodies that ride that are getting to me. okay, mini rant over, I think . . . |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Serowbot on 06/07/11 at 12:34:26 Did you get "Pants" again, Lost?.... I'm kidding... just trying get a laugh outta' ya'... ...can you feel those "noogies" I'm giving you, on the top of your head?... Don't ya' hate those?... Are you about to kick my a$$ now?... Yup?,... then my job is done here... ;D... Naa,.. it's that sunny disposition that makes us brothers,... brother... Take care little bro'.. ;)... I'm running away now... |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Silly Ogre on 06/07/11 at 12:55:01 I agree with not living for the next 6 pack and the 13 y/o's trapped in a 45 y/o body...I would have to say that a small percent of bikers fall in that category though...Brotherhood is something that comes with common interests...We keep an eye out for our brothers and we lend a hand when needed...We lend a shoulder when a brother or sister is down...Tattoo's should have meaning and a story behind them just like scars...Mine does...I work in a profession that has a big brotherhood, and yes when a brother is injured or killed it hurts...Just like when a biker is injured or killed...Riding a bike is dangerous to some extent and we all know that no matter how skilled we are we could be a victim of circumstances...I believe that brings us together and forms a bond.. |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by LostArtist on 06/07/11 at 12:55:13 thanks! ;D ;D maybe I need a triumph or a beemer? :-/ |

Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by LostArtist on 06/07/11 at 13:57:58 think I'll meet more biker babes on a trumpet? |

Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Boule’tard on 06/07/11 at 15:44:10 Motor with an accent.. LOL.. actually, that sort of alludes to the solution, which is to not take motorcycles and motorcycling groups as any sort of package deal. Ride the motorcycles you like. Hang out with the people you like. No problem. |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by WD on 06/07/11 at 17:03:18 Beemers are evil. Well, mine was, drive shaft grenaded and ended up completely destroying the bike. Transmission split in half, frame broke in half... I'd had it a week. Still can't get myself to buy another shft drive bike (which is too bad, I REALLY like 1500 Classics and Drifters, 1100 ACE and Aero). Triumphs are cursed. Okay, REAL Triumphs are cursed, the current ones seem to be okay. Could they have finally exorcised Lucas (Prince of Darkness)? All 4 of my tats are memorials. I don't have time for the bar to bar on their garbage barge bagger set. Or for Hooter's Bike Night (I don't like bolt on's)... Or to the HD shop to not find a Springer of any sort in the used line up (again). No time for the doctors/lawyers/etc playing dress up on the weekend either. My steel toed jackboots are peg worn, my leathers are tattered from earning their keep. I have been known to take more than one of their women away as well... Bikers are a rare breed, Harley (and Goldwing) riders are a dime a dozen. |

Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Boofer on 06/07/11 at 17:14:20 I don't remember calling myself a biker. I know childish behavior when I see it. I wrench alone and ride alone. Most people have no idea of the amount of fun I have riding. I do it for me. There are good and bad people in any group. I usually do the worst thing I can do to the bad ones. I ignore them. And the only people I try to impress are my wife and daughter. ;) |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by bill67 on 06/07/11 at 17:28:23 I call my self a motorcyclist,I only wavy when they wavy first, unless its a goldwing I will not wavy at them. Years ago they wouldn't wavy or didn't even see you at a rest area. Well after my wife died I bought a goldwing and the goldwingers would wavy but I wouldn't wavy back but would wavy at other bikes when they waved . When I wavy my left hand goes up no fancy stuff for me. |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Z on 06/07/11 at 17:46:26 I wave at everybody. I don't care what you ride as long as you ride. Harley's, Goldwings, crotchrockets, even scooters, doesn't matter to me, I'm gonna wave! :) We have a lot of people around here that have harley's and goldwings and they look down their noses at you and treat you as if you are inferior if you don't have the same kind of bike as they do. That attitude irritates the hell out of me. >:( The closest bike shop to me is a harley shop (45 min drive away) and I HATE going in there! Their stuff is so overpriced and it isn't any better than not -big-name brand stuff. They give me attitude (at rest stops and gas stations and such) and I give it right back to them! I probably get away with it b/c I'm a chick but hey, whatever. They aren't any better than me just b/c they paid too much for their bikes! ;D I prefer to ride alone. |

Lancaster is about a 4 hour drive South East from me. Clearfield is a bigger town near me. DuBois is the town with the Harley shop. |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by kimchris1 on 06/07/11 at 18:12:07 Z, I am like you in some way. I have 2 arms, 2 legs and love to ride my bike.. lol.. Ok seriously, I wave at everyone as well. If they don't return the wave, it is their loss not mine. We did a ride for The Veterans about 3 years ago. 90% were HD riders. The women spoke to me when we were in the restroom. Once outside and they saw I didn't ride a HD, they snubbed me. I again look at it as their loss and I have more cool in my lil finger then they have in their whole body. If I see a biker in trouble and able to stop, I do. I have pulled over and offered a few HD riders use of my phone. Yes it appears they have attitude..Well so do I.. I am a red head and I ride a Suzuki.. ;) I have said it before and I will again, I ride my style of bike, my way..I wave and again if the wave is not returned, I shrug my shoulders and go on my way.. Now their are times I don't wave, in unsafe situations. Those I understand. When I rode my scooter, hardly no one waved at me.. Guess I was "scooter trash." ;D ;D kim |

Thats me too - I ride alone, and enjoy it for ME. There are several MC rider groups here, but I'm not interested. And thankfully I have no one to impress so its all good! ;) |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Starlifter on 06/07/11 at 19:45:16 Lost, I think you are confusing most of us here with another genre of riders. We are "Motorcyclists" not big bad-ass "Bikers". We ride for pure enjoyment, not to keep up some phony image of a "bad-ass" on a Harley. Remember the old Honda ads "You Meet The Nicest People On A Honda"? That's us only we ride Suzuki's. I ride alone and wave at everyone. Wave at kids on their bicycles, it makes their day. :) |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Sunchasers on 06/07/11 at 20:15:41 I agree with the majority of what has been said here.... I love this group! I've said it over and over for years... I am a motorcyclist, not a biker and have lived by the philosophy of "be true to what you own, be true to yourself, and be proud to ride it the way you choose". Where I live is "snob" central for HD and other biker wanna-be's. We have a huge HD dealership out next to the freeway with a Hooter's next to it so it becomes a major stop for most riders. Especially during the summer and of course Sturgis week. Our town is the gateway to Estes Park and the Rockies, so you get to see and experience all kinds believe me. However, I do my thing, my way and try to be courteous, but I could care less what others think of me or my bike. To each their own and I wish them all the best. |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by babyhog on 06/08/11 at 07:24:09 I wave at anybody too! Most folks here wave, I can't even really lump together anyone who doesn't wave. Except maybe the MC club guys, and I rarely even see any of them. I ride by a clubhouse to and from work every day. I've even had a couple of them wave at me if they are standing out front. Don't see many bikes there very often though. I dated a couple of hard-core club guys (briefly) back when I was single. Its a rough life! But most of them were really good guys at heart. Just a totally different perspective on life. But even to this day, I betcha if I was in trouble and called one, they'd be right there for me. I was always a motorcycle enthusiast, but my hubby helped me become a motorcyclist. And this group has turned me into something too. Just not quite sure what! lol I always ride to and from work alone, but I prefer to ride with hubby, never ridden with a large group. Have recently had some super-fantabulous rides alone, as I'm getting alot more comfortable this season. Hubby can't seem to get to ride as often as I like. We both rode to work last Tuesday, the 31st, and he has yet to bring his bike back home (brought his truck home instead). I've ridden to and from work every day since!! But... Lost... take it all with a grain of salt, and as others have said, ride what and how YOU want. We love ya man! |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Jerry Eichenberger on 06/08/11 at 08:04:51 LA - I've enjoyed our political debates on the Tall Table, and I'm with you in most of your comments here. I don't do the "bar thing" because I won't ride any bike after even one drink or beer - motorcycles are risky enough without any degree of impairment on the part of the rider. I treat my bike riding like I do my flying - neither is done in stormy weather, at night anymore, nor after drinking anything alcoholic. However, I don't automatically dislike HD riders anymore than I would someone who chooses to drive a Buick. The fact that I don't care for either of those vehicles doesn't make someone who does any more or less to me. Each to his own - I drive a manual car, but I know I'm in the distinct minority. Nor do I think a BMW rider is necessarily a snob; could be, but maybe he's a guy who knows and appreciates engineering, but it on two or four wheels. Also, to whoever mentioned it, not all lawyers who ride bikes are wannabies. A female lawyer friend of mine in Chicago has a Sportster, not a Road King, and is a very down to earth person. I've talked to a lot of folks who own HDs as their first bikes. They made that choice for many of the same reasons they may buy a Ford or GM car - they don't really know engineering, dealers are plentiful if you have a problem on the road, and maint. shops are everywhere that can work on them. If you're not a wrench yourself, like I am not, accessibility to maint. shops can be very important to a buyer. That's one reason I bought my S40 rather than a new Royal Enfield. Even though I love the heritage of RE, and their new bikes are reasonably reliable, the nearest RE dealer is 60 miles from me. Have fun. |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Wolfman on 06/08/11 at 11:09:01 If your rideing because of what other people will think of you or to belong to some 'click', your rideing for the wrong reason. My firm philosophy is i ride and do things for MY SELF. Someone dont like what i ride or how i do things to suit myself they can go take a short leap off a tall cliff. It annoys the he11 out of me when people run their lives because of what other people will think of them. My mothers like that, ex wife got that way to. They say im rude n crude. But i open doors for old ladies, respect others ways of life and wave at other riders. So i cant be to rude n crude...lol Keeping up with the jones will put you in the poor house. Do your thing and dont worry about what anyone else is doing unless it affects your way of life. Ride to live, live to ride, ride your OWN ride. Someone dont like it, to he11 with them. Technicly im a motorcyclist. But its a bike to so guess im a biker as well. Dont dis my ride, leave my money, women, food n family alone and you wont find out how bad a$$ i can be...lol |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by runwyrlph on 06/08/11 at 12:44:17 I don't dislike "bikers". I think dressing up in all the GEARTM is a little silly, but if that's what you like ... I wave back at everybody. If they don't wave it doesn't hurt my feelings anymore than if i meet a fellow subaru driver who doesn't wave! I initiate the wave if i meet someone on a cold, rainy or otherwise miserable day on the way to work - i figure they're kind of like me :) |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by drharveys on 06/08/11 at 13:04:20 I just stopped with the "everyone who rides is my brother". For me, "everyone who rides is my cousin. I have few brothers, and lots of cousins. Some of them are pretty weird, there's a lot of 'em I'd never loan any serious money to, but I sure like seeing them at family events. As for brands and attitudes, well, it's a big marketplace out there, and if one brand floats your boat and another doesn't, that's just personal taste. |

Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by WD on 06/08/11 at 14:19:50 Or experience... I know I'll never buy a post-64 HD again and expect it to be a decent bike. 65-69 models are tolerable, 70 and newer are a waste of materials. I might buy one, but it will be the backup bike. I really like Kawasaki v-twins, except for the 800 Classic, either 900, any flavor of 1600. I like the Savage and the C50T, the rest of Suzuki's line up leaves me cold. Honda VLX600 is a nice bike. The rest of the line up does nothing for me. Killing of the mid-90s ACE and Aeros was a really dumb idea, the VTXs are junk. Only Yamaha I'd own is a 60 spoke wire wheeled XS650. |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Southpaw on 06/08/11 at 14:55:15 I know a lot of Harley riders that are good regular folks! It's the "Harley Lemmings" out there spending their money trying to buy their reputation that I have the beef with! I don't do the bar to bar stuff, I dress in jeans and plain grey t-shirts and I RIDE! If they don't like it, they got three other directions to look! |

My wife bought a little bike when she was 16. She is a very outgoing person and while studying art in Toronto she lived in a co-op residence. On evening a group of Satan's Choice from New York stopped and asked her for directions. Much to the consternation of the other girls in the house she invited them in and made them coffee, got a street map out, and showed them where they wanted to go. As they were leaving one of them gave her a card with the NY chapter number on it and said " If you're down our way and get in ANY kind of trouble, even with the cops, call this number and we'll help you out." |
Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Wolfman on 06/09/11 at 11:55:09 WD, you seen the 2011 Vulcan 900 special edition? Was window shopping at the bike shop yesterday and seen one, almost had a Orgam...lol Sweet looking ride, nice matte black ALL OVER with bronze badgeing. Dont recall seeing a single bit of chrome or silver anywhere. VERY serious case of 'ME WANT.' The two toned C50T in white n gray was'nt to bad looking either. Drooled on the tank. Slightly used blue 900, perfect fit except for the wallet. Wont even mention the burnt orange 650R. Got to stay out of the display areas of the shops...lol |

Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by WD on 06/10/11 at 02:55:58 I avoid the dealership like the plague. There are only 3 bikes out there I have any interest in getting, and all three are out of production. Kawi VN800A (the one with a 21" front wheel), Kawi VN1500 Classic/Drifter (same bike, different fenders), Honda VT1100 ACE. I'd take another antique bike but I've kinda lost my taste for them. Kim, "scooter trash" has nothing to do with a wheeled chainsaw engine. I'm a former patch. |

Title: Re: I think I have a problem Post by Boofer on 06/12/11 at 17:56:29 Did a Relay ride I told ya'll about in May. Fifty bikes with several two-ups on everything from Honda Rebel to I don't know what they were Harleys and Hondas with all the trimmings. Ride was hosted by a Christian MC club. Didn't know hardly anyone. I had people looking over the Savage and I know at least 40 of them spoke to me when we were gearing up and at our stops. One great "friend maker" is to have a common enemy. We need to change that whenever we can. A kind word or an indication that "we are both here on this planet and I see you" can go a long way. |
