Title: Smoke free 3 years today..
Post by kimchris1 on 06/07/11 at 14:40:51

I just realized awhile ago, 3 years ago today, I smoked
my last cigarette.
I took it a day at a time.
I don't begrude anyone a cigarette, as long as they don't
smoke it next to me.
Hubby has tried several times himself to quit, yet so far he
has not been  successful. I do hope someday soon he is though.
I have heard that quitting cigarettes is as hard as going off of heroin.
Well I can't say for sure as never done heroin.
With everything I have been thru the past 15 months, I was able to
refrain from starting again. I just figured I would have had those problems whether I smoked or not..
So I do feel that now I have kicked that habit.
Two wishes if I could have them, that my Mom and hubby both
could quit and stay quit.
Now I have to get the weight off and I am working on that..

Oh and to celebrate, I bought a whole  Copper River Salmon
to have for dinner..YUMMY...
The price for the Salmon is about 1/2 of what people pay for a
carton of cigarettes..
Just thought I would share an acheivement that I am so very proud
of.. Hugs all,  :) kim

I've been smoke-free 16 yrs.  Hope your hubby and mom quit.  My father has emphysema and wishes he had quit, but says he thought it would never happen to him.

Congratulations.  I know that can be really difficult! It took me a couple of years to where the temptation went away and I'd quit giving smokers the stink-eye.  Now I don't mind them a bit and can enjoy the smell of cigs without wanting one.

Working on it very diligently. Don't smoke in the Freightliner (I don't own it). Don't smoke in the mulch yards (highly explosive dust and decomposition gases). Trying not to smoke in the Ranger (was my brother in law's, he was diagnosed with end stage small cell lung cancer 12/8/10, died from it 1/4/11, yep, less than a month). Have never liked smoking in the house.

Carton here is less than $30, you'd best check that salmon... ::)

WD, smokes there are definetly cheaper than here.
Here now, name brand cartons are around $70.00
and higher in some places. Now generic are about
$15 to $20 per carton cheaper I believe.

Yes their have been people that died from Lung Cancer,
Heart Attacks that never took a puff.

I really had no choice, I was having to use my inhaler to
open my lungs to smoke. Now that is being just plain stupid
in my book. I made the choice before I had to pack a oxygen
bottle around with me.
I only hope that now that I have kicked the habit, it will allow
me to be around longer, and enjoy riding the bike for many
many years.
Also I am hoping to be around to see my Grandkids grow up
into adults as well. 3 more important reasons for me to never
start again.. :) kim

Way to go Kim!  My friend just quit using those electric cigarettes. She has been smoke free for 3 months. My dad quit 16 years ago because of health problems. He's now 76. He was smoking since he was 18.

It a tough one to break but worth it if you can.

Congrats for kicking the habit! I quit a long time ago, then relapsed in the 80's. Quit for good when I realized how hard it was getting to pass a pulminary exam to be respirator qualified for work!

Salute!  I am impressed and you're getting it done.  I quit 24 and a hal yrs ago and did it cold turkey but loaded the fridg with all the juices in the world orange grapefruit grape etc and want a smoke drink a pint of juice etc.  I talked with some medical researchers about addiction 25 yrs ago and they said 20 pack yrs that's 1 pack a day for 20 or 2 packs a day for 10 is about all the body will normally fight off.  After that some really non good things are going to happen much of the time.

I stopped when I got married -- cigarettes stink, cigars and pipes can be worse.
I will continue smoking once I am again free, I like cigars.  But I don't wanna be free.
