Title: Seafoam
Post by rl153 on 06/20/11 at 09:15:31

I added 3.3 oz of seafoam to my oil that I had changed recently
( filter too). The valves seem quieter already . How long can I ride around before I have to do another oil and filter  change,or will it be ok to wait till the end of the season ,about 800 mi for me? Or could I just drain the oil and leave the filter? Thanks

I would have no problem with not changing the oil,On the can it says if the oil gets real dirty change the oil,How many miles did you drive it after you put in the sea foam.

So far 10. I think I jumped the gun ,the valves still tick ,but I do think they are a little quieter. Thanks Bill for the tip . I think I'm going to do this in my car too.

I think it works better with Klotz....

But the super magical properties of Seafoam and Klotz cancel each other out when used together.

or maybe they have a synergistic reaction and work even better!!

I haven't used seafoam on my savage yet, but on my cars its has always been recommended to drive around for 50 miles, then change again. Seafoam changes the viscosity of the oil, so you don't want it in there too long.

100 miles on a bike then do an oil/filter change.

Could have done the same thing with 6 ounces of Dexron-Mercon ATF and running it for 5-10 minutes.

Or half a cup of diesel for a few minutes.

But both of them would require a still hot fluid change. And you'd still need to adjust the noisy cam follower (valve rocker). All the additive does is pull gum, varnish and sludge out. And a ton of carbon if you were running rich.

I use a shot of Seafoam in every 3rd fill up, just to be safe. With the ethanol content of today's petrol, I'd rather be clean inside and ride dirty.

I use ATF for that as well. Or two stroke oil. Both will neutralize some of the ethanol side affects, and cost a fraction of what SeaFoam costs. I used to use SeaFoam in my Vulcan, didn't make much difference versus the other two.

A lot of people use Marvel Mystery Oil to do the same thing.

The less spent on additives, the more spent on mods.

I wrote the company and got this answer.

The Sea Foam will not significantly change your oils viscosity and can be run for long term cleaning maintenance. Sea Foam is a pure petroleum blend and will not affect wet clutch operation because there are chemicals in Sea Foam. In fact Sea Foam is in all my crankcases in any vehicle or equipment I have.

"Yeah,.. use it, it's good"...

I'm not sure if he meant there were chemicals in sea foam or there weren't and just petroleum products(which are chemicals too).
