Title: Starter? button? bad connection? Post by ThumperKat on 08/05/11 at 18:11:03 OK, hi everyone, been awhile. I looked thru the posts and didn't see what i needed, but doesn't mean it isn't there... Since i bought my 86 (2 yrs+ now) i've had sometimes intermittent starting, much of the time it works fine, but lately seems a bit more often. e.g. here's the intermittent sequence: When i hit the starter button, i will get either a click, nothing, push, click, starter catches and starts right up, or the same thing but nothing for a few times hitting button, then seems to connect...when it works, it's perfect (for a 25 yo bike). (keep in mind all these components are original equipment) am wondering if i'm looking at a bad connection in the starter button? or a bad ground? bad connection to starter? bad starter? battery charge doesn't seem to make any diff with the intermittent thing, get same response whether fully charged or after sitting awhile. if it's battery, i'm gonna feel mucho stoopido... just curious if anyone has run across this before i start 'investigating'... btw, i hope to finish the bobber conversion this winter ( i hope). thanks in advance! |

Title: Re: Starter? button? bad connection? Post by Serowbot on 08/05/11 at 18:44:12 You seem to have it narrowed down to the right things... ;)... I'd try snugging the ground strap first, 'cause it's easy... right rear of engine, behind clutch actuator... Also, make sure the battery connections are good... and the big wire going to the starter... ... after that,.. I'd say... look into the starter button on the handlebar... |
