Title: I screwed up - how bad is it
Post by weracerc on 10/04/11 at 18:57:47

I did a very stupid thing today - in a hurry to get in to work i forgot to turn off the ignition - 4 hours later dead battery - jumped it - rode it 30+ miles home - put it on the battery charger - will this episode of stupid cause me to have to buy a battery sooner than later? - The battery is about 2.75 yr old. I regularly put it in the charger when the weather turns chilly so it has been fully charged almost every night for the past week.

Don't do it again, and I'd bet you'll never know you did it.
If a batt doesn't stay dead very long, it does very little damage at all.

depends on your batterys age and style
type that requires fluid that isnt too old (supjective) top off and re charge

maintenence free or better just recharge(age subjuctive)

I'll bet all you did was take a few days off the life of the battery.  A full discharge with the load left on the battery causes a minor amount of sulphation, which is the main cause of aging.  No big deal.

Besides, with a battery that is almost 3 yrs old, you'll be needing a new battery within the next year or so anyway.
