Title: Tyres
Post by J C Stokes on 08/25/12 at 21:48:25

Tyres. Replaced original front IRC today at 10100 miles aprox, might have been a little life left, but got a good deal, by NZ standards on a 325/ 19 Michelin Active.

I still have the stock irc up front, over 11,000 miles lol

I still have the stock IRC, with nearly 12000 miles. It has a good bit of cupping, and is just starting to show some cracking in the bottom of the tread grooves. I expect to replace it next Spring, if I don't get lucky and sell the bike before then.

On the other end, each of the stock IRC rear tires lasted about 5500 miles. I put a Metzler ME880 on the rear almost a thousand miles ago, so have no idea how long it might last.

10k, 11k, I was wondering what I was doing wrong until I saw Charon's post.
13k for me and the rear's have had IRC's twice now and I'm up again.

Maybe it's me,... I got about 3.5k on the rear, and 5.5k on the front...
Dunlop 404's bumped that up to about 8.5k rear, 14k front...

I'm still rocking the original IRC front tire on mine (see signature block) - 12,500 miles.

It's about down to the wear bars, though, will change when I next change out the front brake pads (which are getting thin).

I got 8700 miles out of the original IRC rear tire before it hit the wear bars.  My Savage rarely ever leaves town, in case you're wondering.....

Rear went about 3,500 before it blew out. Front lasted about 10,000.
Running Duro's front and back now.

Digger, those are not wear bars. They're spoke tips.  ;D

Funny thing is, there is no cracking to speak of on the tire....and the tire spent the first five years of its life in nasty-air Houston, TX!

Can't quite figure that one out.....
