Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the heck happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'

Um yes, and neither did a trillion dollar military, highways and super highways, airlines, street and road repair, food and drug laws, meat inspection....and so on and so forth...but you get the picture.

I wouldn't mind going back to that time though...for a little while.

Mostly war... Wars happened,... also, Social Security and Medicare (which the majority of people like)...

Excise Taxes http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/history/hmce.htm since 1203, carried into the New World.

Federal Income Tax http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/history/hmce.htm Income Tax has existed for about 2,000 years. In the U.S. we had income tax in 1861.

Property / Real Estate Tax http://eh.net/encyclopedia/article/fisher.property.tax.history.us From Colonial times.

etc..

Governments have been taxed anything they could think since governments started -- the only way to pay for what governments do.

Part of the property tax was based on the number of windows - only the wealthy could sing "I can see clearly now" ;)

Yes and that created the style where in victorian england they bricked over windows.
Then some fools decided that was super cool and they built condo's in my hood with bricked over windows. That created an instant 'Driveby' look ... so much so that someone asked the sales lady if there had been a drive by in the area. So why these windows here boarded up.
