Army Veteran Arrested For Protecting His Family

April 9, 2013 | Columbia, MO - Someone recently posted an older article by Fox News about a burglary and arrest.  One has to wonder how the article from March 2012 about the arrested homeowner would have been reported if our Constitutionally-protected Free Press was in place.  While Homer Wright was simply defending himself, his wife and his home against burglary, this Army Veteran was arrested.  Why?  Because Chicago doesn't allow guns...So, what's Mr. Wright supposed to do, let the burglar pilfer through his stuff while waiting for the cops?  And, before you read the article and tell me, "well, it says the burglar was only after alcohol," does it really matter what he was after?

Don't we have a constitutional right to protect ourselves?  More law officers are telling us they may not be able to respond quickly because of budget cuts or other issues.  Does it really matter how quickly they respond?  Why can't we take the responsibility for our own protection?  By the way, the burglar had been "arrested at least 13 times since 2009."  Yet, whose photo accompanies the article and what was reported FIRST in this misguided article?  Mr. Wright's and that he "was arrested because he had two previous weapons convictions..."  Mr. Wright was treated like a criminal, not only by the police, but by the mainstream press, as well.

"Our mainstream media has lost more credibility over the years, but many simply don't know where to turn.  That's why Peddling Influence is so important.  It explains the media agenda, why we don't get the truth" says film maker William Lewis.

IF the FREE PRESS handled this, the story and Mr. Wright's response to REAL reporters might read something like this:

Burglar Down As 80 yr old Homeowner Defends Home

Homer Wright, an 80-year old Army veteran, successfully defended his home in the wee hours of the morning from a would-be burglar.  Anthony Robinson was shot once in the leg by Wright after Wright found him inside his home at 4 am, attempting to steal his belongings.

According to Wright, "My wife woke me up after hearing something downstairs.  I caught the burglar in that act and defended my property."

Mr. Wright's neighbors call him a hero.

According to court records, Robinson had at least 13 previous arrests since 2009, alone.  Police arrested Wright, however, citing him with illegally defending his home and property.

"It's just plain wrong that people cannot defend against law-breakers in this city.  Just wrong.  I have a right protect my family and home.  It's right there in the Constitution," said a defiant Wright.

There is truly no sense in demonizing Mr. Wright.  Mr. Wright should have been hailed as a hero. This is just one of many examples abusive treatment of a victim by both the media and law enforcement.  We have to ask ourselves why?  Maybe the media doesn't want to step on the toes of the local government in Chicago, but isn't that really their job?  If something is wrong, it is wrong, yet more often than not, the media takes its cues from government.  Because of that, we don't have a free press, we have another "branch" of government...a "state-run" media.  Wonder if Rhom gave the gun to his gay friend?

I know if I had to wait on the cops to respond out here where I live, it could take anywhere from 30 mins to never.  I did once report a guy on my property that was getting into one of my project cars I was building and the cops never showed up.

In the city, you can't shoot at burglars, as the vast majority are members of the racial majority and you will be set up on trumped up racism charges... Here in the county, the standing policy is shoot them and call the cops if your backhoe is broken or the nearest body of water does not contain turtles/catfish...

The police do not respond where I live unless there is a fatality or at least gross bodily harm involved (or to steal your pot plants at harvest time).

That's ok, I brought enough ammo for them too.

I have a question here -

Police arrested Wright, however, citing him with illegally defending his home and property.

So was there a law in that location/state/nationwide saying you cant defend yourself ? Sort of like in Montana a barber can not eat an onion.

That law is the problem, who voted for it ? when and why ?

Cool.

There isn't enough ammo in the world to clean up Memphis. What other major cities in this country can you be executed (by the police department) for shop lifting or bad driving...

Read up on this "bastion" of "black leadership"... what a farce.

I'm married to a cop, she's retired but still works partime. She cant accomplish much for the paperwork. She wont even write a ticket unless its a young teenager that cant drive or texting or someone acting like a dam fool. Even then if they're not a smatass they drive off with a tongue lashing, I know she's good at that. The paperwork takes hours. We need to bring or military boys home and let em clean up cities like Memphis and Chicago.

Sri have you ever voted for a law. Chances are you never will. The friggin, moron, lying, thieving,  sex offenders, pedophiles ,self centered bastards, criminally insane, sick SOB's, mobsters, robbers and white collar criminals who are elected make the laws.

if this is the same story you're talking about; the Homer Wright incident was in Chicago not Columbia, MO. (which I will be riding thru on my way home later today as soon as it warms up....)  He was arrested because he was convicted of a firearms charge and the outcome of that case prevented from owning a gun. The charges against him for shooting the guy were dropped when the case came up.

Two important points: 1) the poor guy no doubt had to hire a lawyer and is now out some cash just because some punk selected his house to break into. I’d like to see that punk  be forced to pay for this guy's legal fees somehow.    2) screw the law; this is America so act like an American. You feel the need to have a gun to defend yourself, carry one.

WD will appreciate this; if I have to go back to some of the neighborhoods I visited when selling filters to cement kilns and silos near the Memphis riverfront, I’m packing this time. I don't care what the Memphis law might say. One of the few places in the country where I’ve ever felt actually in real physical danger at any moment. was like a freaking war zone. I know where and where not to go in my city, but had no idea what I was walking into. I loath Memphis….

I avoid the city like the plague was there. Occasionally Lisa will get tickets to something at the Orpheum, and at least one gun is well hidden when we go there, usually a .22 magnum "necklace" revolver... It is what is commonly referred to as a "two hander", grab the perp with one hand, stick the barrel in his ear or up his nose with the other.

That made better sense than my assumption - thanks webster.

That is serious, not sarcasm, and it was the Homer wright 80 yr old veteran case.

I have voted in my entire life 1 time, in the US in 2012, I left India around my 21st birthday, and from my 18th to the 21st there were no elections, and I became a US citizen in 2011. One and only time I voted was US 2012 general elections, early voted straight dems, in a state they lost by 100K+.
So no to voting on laws - but, I do know some laws are sitting on books from 100 years ago in some states. I'm serious there is a law preventing a barber from eating an onion in some western state.

Cool.
