Title: ping clicking noise Post by bdrums71 on 03/09/14 at 12:24:02 Hey guys, i just did the leaky plug/cap replacement, i used permatex rtv copper gasket maker, i did not torque the head down because i did not have a torque wrench (any one know the torque specifications). anyway i started the bike up today and there is a very fast pinging, clicking sounds coming for the engine somewhere it seems to get louder when i rev the engine. also there is a loss of power, not huge but i can definitely feel it, no oil leaks, and no air blowing out so i think the gasket is holding up. anyone have any idea of what it can be? Much appreciated guys |

Title: Re: ping clicking noise Post by S-P on 03/09/14 at 13:37:44 From what I've read on the forum you need to re-adjust your valves after removing the head. The difference in the amount of sealer can change your clearances, especially if you didn't torque it. I'd say go to harbor freight and spend 20 bucks on one and torque the heads before you ride it any farther. Warped heads are not good on any engine. |

Title: Re: ping clicking noise Post by Kris01 on 03/09/14 at 16:37:17 Auto Zone has a torque wrench in their loan-a-tool program. You buy a used tool at full price, use it, return it, and get a 100% refund. |

Title: Re: ping clicking noise Post by seedubs1 on 03/10/14 at 11:22:09 A torque wrench is essential if you're going to be doing your own work inside the engine. Stop being cheap and buy one already ;D |

Title: Re: ping clicking noise Post by shorty on 03/11/14 at 12:19:42 if the clicking is coming from the crankcase you should check the cam-chain tensioner, mine was over extended at 17k miles |

Title: Re: ping clicking noise Post by bdrums71 on 03/23/14 at 16:47:59 hey guys, thanks for all the responses! re sealed the head torqued the nolts down and readjusted the screws on top of the valves to .10mm since i read somewhere on here they should be between .08 and .13mm, still no luck getting rid of the noise. the bike runs and sounds amazing just this darn ticking coming from the top of the head. im pretty sure its coming from the valves but idk if i should loosen or tighten the screws. |

WOAH!! :o The proper valve clearance is 0.008-0.013mm (0.003-0.005 in). That extra zero will make a helluva difference, I tell you whut! If you download the Suzuki Savage Clymer's manual PDF from this website, the spec is listed on page 10 with various other "tune up" specs. ;) |
