Title: new handlebar mounted decomp?? Post by Tony from tdot on 11/12/14 at 21:54:13 hello all... IVe been working diligently on my bobber project, just picked up an 86' savage with 33,xxx kms on it. As I was looking around on ebay for levers, I found this......maybe it can be setup someway to work the decompression manually in a nice clean package? Let me know what yall think and I might buy it and let you know how it turns out... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Moose-Standard-Clutch-Perch-With-Hot-Start-Chrome-Fits-Honda-CRF450R-2004-2008-/390957807668?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5b06e6b834&vxp=mtr |

Title: Re: new handlebar mounted decomp?? Post by Dave on 11/13/14 at 03:47:31 Been there....done that....won't work. I tried a lever, perch and hot start lever from a Honda CR bike. The first problem I encountered is the lever and perch don't have enough travel on the clutch cable for the Savage, and the clutch will not release. http://i59.tinypic.com/2vsj9t2.jpg So then I adapted the hot start lever to work with a GSXR 650 clutch lever and perch. The clutch worked fine - but I then discovered the hot start lever just doesn't have enough leverage to pull the exhaust valves open if they are closed. http://i61.tinypic.com/212czrl.jpg My ultimate solution was to get a BMX bicycle brake lever and use it to pull the compression release. I am using 7/8" bars - so you would have to find a lever that fits 1" bars or cut the opening in the perch bigger to fit the 1" bars. http://i62.tinypic.com/2lm2vwn.jpg I also had to make a new mount and lever for the engine to give the lever more travel to match the amount of travel on the lever. http://i57.tinypic.com/2h37j9t.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/2wno4ud.jpg To make the cable you can use the Venhill throttle cable kit - or I used cables and sleeves for bicycles - but I had to make the end fittings out of brass and then learn how to solder stainless. The Venhill kit has steel cable that is galvanized and easy to solder, and the fittings included in the kit may work with the lever...not sure. http://www.venhillusa.com/venhill-universal-motorcycle-throttle-cable-kit.html |
