Title: Stripped Screws Post by Text_14 on 06/01/15 at 19:09:35 Is it normal for screws to easily strip the heads if the bike has been sitting for over three years? I am tearing apart the carb and one screw head was already completely gone before I touched it and now two more just gave in and are crap. I am using Craftsman tools, so I didn't think that would be an issue. Should I invest in Snap On? Also, is it worth to change all the screws on the outside of the carb to hex screws? I have seen this in the thread a few times.

BARELY accessible,if they had been normal nuts and bolts, woulda been rusted and impossible to get off. Brass , good stuff. But, tools and technique, Were they clean? Right tool? Threads extending through the connected parts can get dirty, don't wanna go, I've never heard of brass bolts on the Savage.

Title: Re: Stripped Screws Post by chzeckmate on 06/25/15 at 14:59:08 Every carb I've ever worked on had screws made of butter...it's better to strip the screw head than to strip the internal threads or crack the carb I think.  I've stripped a bunch of screw heads over time and I just remove the screw with an Alden extractor.   If you're going to replace the screws with Allen then I would say be cautious when tightening them down.  You can't just jam them in like it's prom night or something.
