Title: Re: You didn't even Know Post by DesertRat on 10/21/15 at 20:35:09 verslagen nailed the gist of the paper ... but the author forgot to account for lean angle to keep from going a"drift": "...Drifting is a useful way of using excess engine power to provide some additional cornering power, but on tarmac the reduction in lean angle is not usually all that much..." http://www.ducati.org/forums/attachments/media/45925d1307538848-holy-lean-angle-509960504_5dajo-m.jpg |

Title: Re: You didn't even Know Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/21/15 at 20:36:06 It all started so innocently. An article about how a motorcycle corners. Suggesting to look up camber thrust and camber force. The picture of the rear wheel, showing the tire so deformed.. |

Title: Re: You didn't even Know Post by old_rider on 10/21/15 at 22:30:51 And all that discussion of rotational force and camber of the tyre vrs. angle of attack...blah, blah, blah...every thing I read was the "perfect day" with the "perfect conditions" and the "perfect tyre". It is never a constant, the temperature of the tyre vrs pavement, makes a difference. The humidity of the air vrs the pavement makes a difference. And the biggest thing.... who is riding the thing? Weight / experience / and believe it or not, the emotional state of the individual... will make a difference. There are way too many variables to make a statement on how a motorcycle turns a corner at it's "optimal" angle of attack... its all generalizing. If they had it figured all out, a team would be winning all the time in the race business :) |
