Title: idiot light problem Post by Steddy58 on 11/26/15 at 20:13:48 Bollocks I'll leave as is - it aint worth the bother |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by justin_o_guy2 on 11/26/15 at 21:10:54 Right now, two lights, left, right. You want one light, left or right. You connect a wire from the light to ground. The other side, put a wire on, connect the wires from the two idiot elites to it. You need a meter or test light. |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by thumperclone on 11/26/15 at 22:53:29 you'll need diodes to block the current from flowing to the other side if not you get 4 way flash when either l or r is energized |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by Dave on 11/27/15 at 04:26:45 You also have an unused inicator light hole. The really early bikes had a light in the lower edge of the speedometer, opposite the neutral light that was a kick stand light and showed when the kick stand was down. The hole and colored panel is still in place - but there is no light in that spot anymore. If you need an extra indicator light for something, you can plug a light in this hole. As if you want to combine both turn signal lights into one - you will need to install diode(s) to keep the current from backfeeding to both lights when you turn one turn signal on. |

JOG.....this is one of your confusing posts you had asked about earlier. I have no idea what you are trying to say.....or how this will work without diodes to prevent the combined indicator light from back feeding to the other side and making 4 way flashers out of the turn signal switch. |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by Art Webb on 11/27/15 at 09:19:18 I try to avoid idiot lights; every time I get near one, it lights up ;D |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by Steddy58 on 11/27/15 at 11:39:20 I know what you mean Art Webb, which is why I'm asking is there a walkthrough or an idiots guide to idiot lights somwhere, btw JoG 2 that was my way of thinking but I thought it cant be that aesy - sod all else has been :) |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by verslagen1 on 11/27/15 at 11:56:31 if you look thru the wiring diagrams, you'll find one that's wired like that. |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by Todd James on 11/28/15 at 11:36:41 Steddy58: Your signature line says that you have a 1988 Savage. According to the wiring diagram for 1987 through 1994 LS650's, you should already have just one single indicator light for the turn signals. If yours has two separate indicator lights it may be because the wiring diagram is wrong or that it doesn't apply to UK versions of the Savage. In either case, you can convert to a single indicator light by connecting it as shown in this diagram in the Technical Section: http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1294779818 You don't need any diodes or relays for this. Just connect the two wires from your single indicator bulb to the green and black wires that go to the turn signal switch. I think you can splice in to them in the headlight enclosure. Their colors won't be green and black at that location but you can find the correct wires with a test light. Two things to consider: 1) You must use a standard low wattage, incandescent indicator bulb; not an LED bulb. That's because it must be able to conduct +/- voltage in both directions. 2) The turn signal bulbs must be standard incandescents, not aftermarket LED's. That's because the small indicator light uses the heavy filaments in the turn signal bulbs to complete its ground (-) connection in both directions. Use the standard bulb numbers: 1157 Front, 1156 Rear By the way ... the wiring diagram referenced above has at least one error that I've found. It shows both of the front turn signals connected to the left turn circuit. You can still use the diagram for a reference on how to connect your single indicator bulb, but it will confuse you if you try to trace the wiring beyond that. |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by Steddy58 on 11/28/15 at 17:39:49 Yeh Todd I noticed that as well but my speedo had the two turn indicator lights, thanks for the info mate |
Title: Re: idiot light problem Post by Todd James on 11/28/15 at 19:17:53 You're welcome, Steddy. Now I'm curious about the wiring diagram discrepancy. Maybe some others who have '87 through '94 model year Savages will let us know how their turn signal indicator(s) are configured. The diagram for the 2004 model also shows just one indicator light. |

Just got the ball rolling. |

I guess Liverpool is far enough away to rule that out... ...but, I'm only guessing...:-? |
