Title: I almost killed someone! Post by Kris01 on 12/06/15 at 11:03:48 I'm driving 40 mph in a Ford E350 box truck. Think moving van. This idiot facing the same way as traffic (I'm looking at the back of his head) decides to walk across the street and then look for cars. He made it about 10-15 feet out into traffic before he decided the smart thing to do was to look for cars. Luckily I was slowing down to turn right. I stood on the brake but couldn't swerve because of heavy traffic. I missed him by maybe 2 feet! He did not appear to be impaired in any way (except maybe stupidity). I hear reports on the radio all the time about a pedestrian was struck at so-and-so intersection. Now I know why! What is wrong with people these days? Should I have hit him to "thin the herd"? That's a rhetorical question by the way! ;) The gene pool needs more chlorine! |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by justin_o_guy2 on 12/06/15 at 12:42:41 Trust me, you don't want to hurt or kill anyone who isn't a threat to you or someone else, or, your future.. should they be stealing your life savings or something.. I knew a guy who mashed a kid on a skateboard. And,in school, he was a jerk. But, after he killed the boy, he was a wreck. Wasn't his fault at all. Kid walked up, threw the board down and jumped on, belly first. Steve never saw him. Drove right over him. Being legally Not at fault But Knowing that you Could have avoided it? Man, what a tough thing to wake up to every day. You did right. It's instinct, in normal people. He should be happy knowing that our electeds are chauffeured. Buncha sociopaths.. Did he realise how close he came to being a hood ornament,? |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by Kris01 on 12/06/15 at 19:26:28 Nah, he wasn't texting. He did give me a look of "boy that was stupid of me"! I looked back at him like "yeah, you're right". I'm glad he (or I) weren't injured though. There are some women on the street where I work that are infamous for walking out in front of cars. Everyone that works on that street knows to watch out for them. I just don't know what to say about people anymore! |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by Dave on 12/07/15 at 05:27:55 Good thing you weren't texting and saw the goofy pedestrian! Wonder who's insurance company pays if "both" parties are texting and get into an accident? Kentucky has "no-fault" insurance where your company pays for your damage and the other drivers insurance pays for their damage. Wonder if any companies have "no-brains" insurance for those who choose to text while crossing the street or driving? |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by Kris01 on 12/08/15 at 05:02:28 The worst thing about the whole situation is that it's a 4 lane road with a turn lane in the middle. It wasn't a deserted road where you don't expect to see any traffic. He didn't have earphones or appear to be distracted in any way. |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by kimchris1 on 12/08/15 at 07:05:59 It appears you were paying more attention than he was. That is a good thing as no matter who would have been at fault, it would have been devastating. I do believe riding a mc makes one more aware of their surroundings off and on the bike. Let's hope the near miss makes him think twice before stepping out into traffic again.. |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by Kris01 on 12/09/15 at 15:27:06 I totally agree. I think riding a motorcycle makes you more aware of your surroundings. I know when I'm on 2 wheels I notice EVERYTHING that moves including falling leaves, mosquitoes... Everything! |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by Art Webb on 12/11/15 at 08:51:37 when I am sans motorcycle i get less attentive in the car or truck Riding makes me almost telepathic, even in my cage |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by Art Webb on 12/11/15 at 18:55:14 It's like this Justin when I ride regularly, my awareness of subtle cues of incoming stupidity from other drivers increases dramatically, to the point where I can predict with a high degree of accuracy what stupid thing another driver is gonna do, even when I'm in my cage when I don't own a bike, and therefore don't ride for long periods of time, that sensitivity fades, and I'm more apt to be caught by surprise by said stupidity In short, riding sharpens my awareness and hones my 'spidey sense' Does that make sense? |

Title: Re: I almost killed someone! Post by Ed L. on 12/11/15 at 19:14:56 Glad you missed him even though he pulled a stupid move. Had an English teacher back in high school, a 5 year old girl ran out between two parked cars in front of him. He couldn't stop in time, the girl didn't make it. It destroyed him. He became an alcoholic, broke up with his wife and just disappeared. Wouldn't want to see anybody go through life with such guilt, you both were lucky. :) |
