Looking at the RSD, I just thought of something. My horn is barely powerful enough for anything. Could it be going bad, or do they all suck?

Key on.
Stand near horn.
Push button.
Note hickey on leg, near horn.
Clue.
Horn sucks.

Yeah, many bikes have lame horns.  Do a search on here and check out the dual horn setup some of us have done.
Here's mine:  http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1436647368/10

In a Real emergency, you Can scream. I'm very loud. You Can rap it up, flip the kill,, BANG,   Seems parking lots left me most ill at ease, but the
I'm turning left across your invisible butt
left me seriously worried.
My approach to getting their attention was weaving and flashing the headlight high and low. Some have called the wisdom of that into question, but I never saw anyone interpret it as
Ok, you can go.

The ironically named Hurt report shows what p percentage of injuries to the head are on what part of the head.
Not sure where I saw it, but Where we are, in traffic, can make us more likely to get turned across.

If you're leading Or trailing a string of traffic, you're more likely to be hit. The driver sees a long line coming, doesn't want to wait, tries to make it. Tag, you're it.
You're Last in a line. The driver is watching bumpers. The last Car in the line is Time to gun it..

YOU need to be either tailgating and near the passenger side or on the line, weaving a bit, and Ready to use the last car in the line as a shield.

Or, back off far enough to Allow safe traffic flow.

Watch heads, and front tires. The Top of a front tire shows more than the center.

the horn SUX ... tried to use it today and it just laughed at me.  Almost lost the fight with 3 different vehicles today, 2 left turners in intersections and one right turner from a side street. Oh and a f@ckIng tailgater nearly took me out when I had to hard brake a lane changer, dipped into right LP3 from left LP1.  :o

Not sure WTF is up with people today, but they're NOT seeing me.  >:(

Any time one of my buddies sees me on mine I'll find a text on my phone, when I get off, that just says "meep, meep."

YES!

I moved the wires from the stock horn to a horn relay, with a #10 wire from the battery to the relay to a pair of 136db "highway" car horns:
http://www.andruschak.net/savage/Paladin/Horns.jpg
I don't use the horns often, but when I did it, it sounded like a Caddy bearing down on someone.

However, the stock. Savage horn was far better than my Vespa.  That horn was a:
-- meep -- "Excuse me, but could you please try not to kill me, if it is not too much trouble?"

The horn is bad and sounds like something for a moped.  Does anyone know of a better horn that is a simple install, no relays or extra wires.

I wonder if mine is even weaker than what it's supposed to be.  ;D

Since I live out in the country where people don't honk their horns much, I doubt I would know to use the horn if my life depended on it. I'd just get silently run over. ;D  Maybe a "whoa!" or something at the most... Then, after it's all over, I'll think, "Darn it! Should have used the horn!"

Isn't it true that people out in the country don't use their horns much compared to city people? Lack of city driving and congested traffic? Over the years I haven't really gotten out as much as some other people.

On my Ninja 500 I simply replaced the pathetic factory horn with a Fiamm 'freeway blaster' from AutoZone, no relays, no huhu
every time I hit it after that, my riding buddy jumped and said "DAYUM!"

There's a guy on the Honda Rebel forum that has a rebel dressed out like a WW1 army bike, he carries an M-1 Garand in a US issue fork sheath

I noticed on Amazon there is another Fiamm horn, the 72012 which is about $4 cheaper, it claims 125 dB vs. 130dB for the Freeway Blaster.  I don't know if that is deal breaker but maybe it draws less current than the louder horn.

Anyway I am going to buy one of these horns and would like to thank the guys who posted the information.

My Enfield has the loudest horn I've ever heard on a motorbike. Those freeway blasters might be louder, I haven't heard them. But these Enfield ones sounds like a truck is coming. They're great. Possibly the most fit for purpose part on this bike. Better than the ridiculous squeak from the cabbage. Btw, the Suzuki one can be made better: uncrimp the shell apart, clean out the magnet/ coil arrangement and tune it with the screw on the outside. Mines quite loud now.

Anybody see a problem with having a louder horn? I mean, if you sound like a big truck then other drivers are going to be looking for a big truck. They may even panic and swerve into you. Just food for thought.

Am I over thinking this?

No Kris : when it comes to being see --- ya can't over think it !  :D

I've got one of the largest number ratings ones I could find on ebay "motorcycle horns" , and have no problems with needing a relay , got one on both bikes and still no problems.   :)

I know the folks in cages can hear it because when I give the roadrunner beep-beep just before passing - they look around till they find me -- then floorboard it as if to say "YOU AIN'T PASSING ME !"  ;D

ESPECIALLY those people in Dodge vehicles ...  ;D ;D

The link to my post on the first page has some pics (actually, you even replied to the thread  ;D).  It's the FIAMM El Grande kit which includes both the high and low tone horns.  Having both gives the best sound.  20 bux on Amazon clicky link.
