Title: Good trunk? Post by och on 10/21/16 at 18:35:26 I bought the OEM backrest + luggage rack which should arrive at some point next week and I would like to get a trunk that fits onto the luggage rack. Looking for recommendations. I would like the trunk to have a tail light for safety, good size and water proof. |

Title: Re: Good trunk? Post by verslagen1 on 10/21/16 at 19:31:12 the oem luggage rack is a misnomer... should be named sandwich rack. that's all the weight it'll carry. |

Title: Re: Good trunk? Post by Rodger on 10/21/16 at 20:39:06 I've only had one bike with a trunk (an '84 Yamaha Venture) and I usually took it off. Too much weight, too high and far back on the bike. On a lighter, smaller bike like the Savage, that affect would be even more pronounced, I'd think. I'd like to have some additional lighting on the back of my S40, myself....thinking a a red LED or two on the bottom of the license plate. |

Title: Re: Good trunk? Post by batman on 10/22/16 at 14:34:57 the only way to place a large trunk on this bike is to remove the passenger seat ,otherwise the weight is to far back ,it'll make the front of the bike to light and you'll be dealing with a dangerous high speed wobble. |

Title: Re: Good trunk? Post by Dave on 10/23/16 at 02:30:04 My ST100 and NT700 have Givi top trunks. They are handy and provide good storage, and my wife feels far more secure on the bike when she has something to lean against. The trunks are also very handy for storing jackets and helmets when you stop. However....the trunks stick way up in the air flow, and the buffeting wind can make the bike wiggle when it hits the trunk. Luckily the Givi trunks just snap on/off and I can remove it when I go on rides that don't require the extra storage (both bikes had hard bags on the sides). old_rider has a Harley Tour Pack on his Savage - it does make his bike a single seater. |

I had a trunk on my '88 for awhile. took off the pillion, swapped the sissy bar rails for the other type, moved the rectumfryer. then I made a mounting board similar to the plate the trunk fit on. http://www.savageriders.com/verslagen/images/new-trunk.jpg |

Title: Re: Good trunk? Post by badwolf on 10/26/16 at 10:57:22 vers, What is that back wheel in your picture off? 15, or 16 inch? Tubeless? I have been looking at Suzuki 550L rears from the early 80's, all 16''. Did the stock drive hub and brake fit? |

Title: Re: Good trunk? Post by verslagen1 on 10/26/16 at 11:43:06 16" tubeless, all details are in the tech section look up cast wheel. But I got my info from "whale" thread. I used the stock hub and brake. |
