Thankfully, I didn't stop reading what he was saying. I didn't have all the facts, and I was wrong.

Here, he hands us documented evidence to challenge some of our long held beliefs. Opened my eyes in a couple of places.
How many times do you have to be wrong before you're willing to lay down the walls used to protect those beliefs from the facts that would challenge them?

I enjoy reading his articles, he provides very objective insights.  For those who aren't aware he is a former asst treasury secretary.

Best regards,

I get what he says, but he paints with broad strokes and contradicts himself - at least in this article.

He writes:  "For example, President Donald Trump says he is going to enforce the immigration laws. For the left this is proof that Trump has put on the White Sheet and joined the KKK."

That's simply not true.  You can't say that about everyone on the left.  That would be like me saying everyone on the right is in the KKK - I don't - WE don't.

A more accurate assessment would be that IF trump ONLY targeted Muslims or ONLY targeted Mexicans - then yes, that would be racist.  I have no problem with him enforcing the immigration laws as they should be. (and neither do any of my personal friends on the left)

You just can't put everyone on the left in same container.  Same goes for the right.

Then he goes on and gives a glaring example of the right's "the left is always wrong" mentality, but never follows it up:

"Yes, I know. It works also in the other direction. If you don’t hate the left, you are one of them. Because I criticized the George W. Bush regime for its war crimes, conservatives branded me a “pinko-liberal-commie” and ceased to publish my columns."  But no follow up on how distorted that is.

He ends with yet another false narrative:  "How can President Trump or anyone unite a country in which historical understanding is buried in myths, lies, and the teaching of hate?"

There is no "teaching of hate".  The real problem is that the far left uses the term 'racism" too often and the far right has a bad case of thin-skin.

C'mon guys, how many times will I be called "snowflake" because my ideals are center-left?  How many time have you all been called "racist" or "redneck" because your ideals are center right?

It seems to me that articles like this start out well intended, but veer off course and can make the situation worse.  Perhaps he could have better explained racism for what it is and isn't.  It's obviously different today than it was in the 1800's.  IMHO, that's what needs to be talked about.

Center right or right of center?  I've been called rayciss on numerous occasions because I don't concede to the liberal agenda.
