I don't understand HOW anyone can think that every job is supposed to pay enough to allow someone to live in an apartment and have a car and go buy groceries.. HOW did you come to THAT little piece of SHOULD?
Without that $1.60 minimum wage job I wouldn't have been able to put gas in the tank of the car I got when dad gave granny a nicer car. I rarely went home for a meal. I bought my own clothes and paid for the maintenance.. I couldn't even pay the insurance,, .
But you economic geniuses just keep it up. Look at what the auto industry unions did to themselves. They demanded such a pay scale that the companies they worked for faltered in their ability to compete with the imports.
You Can't legislate Wealth. The government Telling an employer what the cost of labor will be isn't exactly what I would expect to work out. Yeah, when I was a kid, it was
Well, that's just the way it is.. but now ,, with a few years and a few books and a bit more understanding of reality, I don't know if there should even be a minimum wage. But with the unemployed being everywhere, an employer sees a glut of labor On the Shelf, each labourer hopping up and down hollering Pick me, Pick me,,  so the employer doesn't have incentives to appreciate laborers. What happens when the employer can't AFFORD $15.00/hour? They either figure out how to replace the laborer through technology or they get the customer to sack their own groceries or bus their own table,, or they go broke.

Just because you Believe things Should work the way you Wish they would doesn't mean that it Can be done.
Labor costs are a Percentage of Gross Profits. Insurance, utilities, the property, maintenance, equipment, workers comp, social security, your boss matches what they take out of your check, did you know that? The EMPLOYER has taken the risk of opening a business. But he OWES the people on the bottom rung $15.00 an hour? A burger flipper or grocery sacker or convenience store clerk is worth Fifteen Bucks an HOUR? You're nuttier than squirrelshit.
