Title: Book of the Week
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 04/02/17 at 15:42:52

Tragedy of The Commons
Search that, interesting concept

http://www.amerika.org/tag/virtue-signaling/

Explains so much, where the drive to be one of the crowd, comes from, What not being one of the crowd is like being friends with the outcast.

You're right. I hadn't heard of that. I just finished the Wikipedia article.

Interesting discussion on how best to balance individual rights vs. the rights of an entire community when dealing with access to a possibly sustainable but finite resource that, theoretically at least, belongs to everyone.

I know where I instinctively fall on those scales - heavily on the side of individual rights, but I can see the dilemma, and I'm not sure that I'm entirely justified in that view in all possible situations where the resource is susceptible to being degraded to the the point where everyone loses.

What is the best mechanism for insuring that the parasite doesn't kill the host and by so doing kill itself ?

Unless of course the host, or resource, we're talking about is simply money. In that case there is no dilemma.

We simply keep creating it out of thin air as we have been doing, and everyone lives happily ever after.

That'll work. Right?

Ohh, yeah, absolutely,, and a quick look at our ever shrinking GDP would support that.
Open borders and trade deals that cut our throats and importing Rapefugees will Surely save us.

I posted this link a while ago. As far as I can tell it was completely ignored. I think that's a shame.

It's a novel,' a satire, a parable I suppose. Unfortunately it's also  quite prophetic I believe.

That was  EXCELLENT   !!!!!!!!!!!

Just One of the good parts:
" Now for the “Success for me, but not for thee” part: at the same time these people are using liberalism to advance themselves and push down others, they are also using it to conceal their greatest secret. If they are succeeding, it is with conservative methods and principles, but they must hide these because they are unpopular, so like the politician kissing babies they make a big public show of liberalism, and then in private, act as conservative as possible."

It's just to bad, T&T, and like, won't read it !

The message is developed over those several topics, then summarized. I was happy with the time invested and what I got out of it.

And who bothered to read it? Not the ones who so desperately need to.

would be sad if it wasn't so stupid

Which was it?
Tried to read it, couldn't understand it?
Scanned it, didn't see any comfortable talking points?
Where is it stupid? Go ahead, critique it.

Their are some people that will spend  10  min, watching a video on ‘u-tub’.

Their are some people that will spend  15 min, watching a ‘feed’, on FB.

Their are some people that will spend  20 Min, watching, a  a, ‘wheel’, spin on a  TV  show.

Their are some people that will spend  30 min, watching, a  ’sit com, re-run’ on TV.

But spend, 40  Min, reading, going back, making notes, reading again ?????

NA,  To  Hard  !!!!!!!!!!!

So used to the,  ’15  SECOND”,  Sound  Bites.

Just can’t,  ‘read’, something, and  offer a comment,
(Even a  different one, who cares)
Because they  do,   NOT,  read it, understand it, have experienced it.

Hey, it’s not a,   “SOUND- BITE”.

So just drive by, toss out a, (un-thinking), Comment.
and then  Ignore.

It confirmed some of my thinking and opened up new lines of thinking. Insightful , powerful and, apparently not worth reading for some. Maybe it hits too close to home..

Well, lotsa social-babble.  It clearly is the case that overpopulation will cause increased competition for ever smaller resources.  What normally has happened is that War, or Plague  sweeps in and eliminates a significant % of the population.  Society breaks down for a while and then a new order takes power.  The deforestation of South America and Central Africa offers, to many, the greatest potential for bringing forth a new disease that will kill off most humans.  To understand the global warming folks, you would then accept their premise that much of the presently inhabited land will be submerged as the ice caps melt and the oceans rise.  This will pit habitable land use versus agricultural land use; especially if the rise in the oceans re ice also mean salinity of the oceans change enough to destroy much of the life (our food) that lives there.
Sounds like good time ahead. :o

It's not that long as books go. Just over a hundred pages. But it packs a lot of interesting ideas into those pages. The most astonishing thing to me is that it was written in 1973. 44 years ago. Almost like Raspail could see the future.

Anyone giving it a "quick scan" looking for a sound bite will miss a lot, I think.

Last time anything like that happened on a large scale in the US was during and in the aftermath of the War between the States .Particularly, but not exclusively, in the South. And most folks were a lot more self sufficient back in those days. There is no one born in this country alive today that has experienced anything remotely similar.

Gonna be quite a shock to a whole lot of people.

I'm thinking are next stop on the  Railroad to Ruin will be a rehash of the  French Revolution.  When all the wealth is in the hands of a few, the rest finally get sick of being used and abused.   :D

The real deserving have places and security forces the peons will never take.
Now, if the Military should decide to destroy status quo, then we have a chance.. otherwise,
This experiment is over.
America was gutted by the fed, Lincoln, and in 1933,
We need to change things that Allow the abuses.
