Title: Stock Market Post by WebsterMark on 07/14/17 at 05:14:43 I read an great point by someone today. The stock market has been for the most part, completely unaffected by the constant fake news about Trump's missteps and what some of you think are the guaranteed upcoming resignation or impeachment. In fact, the value has gone up. I know my 401k balance has soared. The idea is that when people actually put their own money up, partisanship gives way. This is why some of the gambling futures markets did not show Hilary winning by a large margin and some even predicted Trump's victory. This is also why our little friend TT yaps loud but runs for mommy when challenged to put cash on the line. The column went to got conclude that investors have decided either one of two things or perhaps some combination. 1) Fake news has completely permeated our media to the point the daily news cycles are ignored and only specific items that have a long media life are given consideration as possible truths. 2) They balance the spin put on by each side. Assume 90% of what CNN says is not true, 90% of what Fox says is not true, and you might have 50% of the truth. If investors really thought resignation or impeachment was a real possibility, they would be more cautious. Or they would be searching for opportunities to benefit from that, but neither of those things are happening. |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by bobert_FSO on 07/14/17 at 05:56:36 TT, not one of your responses gave any information or discussionable(?) response. Talk about grade school taunts. I generally see nothing but them from you. I usually just lurk at the table but I can't help but notice that almost all of your responses are simply smart-aleck comments and name calling. You even turned the sticky discussion on how to behave at the table into a name-calling slugfest. It's no wonder no one here likes you. Frankly, it's not your politics. It's one thing to be a voice contrary to most member's stances. I believe most members here would welcome discussion, but you can't seem to do that. |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by WebsterMark on 07/14/17 at 05:58:43 I don't think there's anything more to be said after that. We can probably just close this thread right now! |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/14/17 at 06:18:01 He revels in stifling opposing positions. Not discussing, just stomping them dead. And he WILL pretend whatever is necessary to frustrate someone until they stop trying. Meaningful dialogue is not something any observant person would expect from him. So, why bother typing and trying when you know how many opposing Facts you need to change his mind is infinity plus one? Maybe if everyone stops responding he will just go away. |

Bobert. Thanks for your comment. It's nice to "see a new face" on this board. Did you get a chance to see my suggestions for "rules of conduct"? I wasn't kidding about them. I voted in the affirmative to uphold them and I would if it were voted in. No joke. At any rate - I took some time to go back into the archives of this room. It's sad really. It's been the same 4 or so people that love to bully those that have contrary opinions. They "gang up" on newbies and hound them and treat them as less than themselves. Now, what I'm doing to them, is what they do to others. It's tough wearing that shoe, ain't it boys? If you haven't already, please go look back at my other posts on other threads. I show no love for hillary. I've called out Obama being a corporate shill. I've put CNN in the same category as MSNBC and fox. I support the Second Amendment. I don't support a $15 minimum wage. I'm not a fan of the "college for all" mentality. I've called the democrats "pu$$ies". I'm anti-establishment. There is more - but you should find out for yourself. It comes down to simple respect Bobert. If I'm not shown any - I don't give any. However, when called out on going too far - I have apologized. When posting something out of line, I've used the phrase "my bad" more than once. I'm human - I make mistakes. I own them. I hope you can see, since you and I have never exchanged pleasantries, I'm not badgering you and calling you out. Why would I. I have no reason. Whether or not you believe me - I'll take your criticism to heart. I honestly hope you speak out more as opposed to lurk. Lastly, I would ask that you don't judge a person on one thread - on one argument. That's all. Cheers. |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by raydawg on 07/14/17 at 09:52:19 Web, I will take a guess..... I work for Boeing, it is so diverse in the global market, that local economies don't have much sway or impact on their over all investments. A down market in Europe, but an upmarket in Asia, etc, balances out. Now take that to our stock market. The investors want to make money, duh. These investors have jobs, so to speak, to earn money so they can invest. One job holder is a democrat politician. Another a republican politician. Both invest in that market, hoping for the same effect, earnings. Well the democrats jobs is to keep his job, so he can earn money to buy more stock, get richer. Same with the republican. A great investment is the war industry. Pays great returns. Both wanting high yields, invest in those companies. The republican does it straight up, under the the guise of a strong force reduces the risk of war, etc. The democrat talks chit about war, to keep his job, but has no qualms about investing in those industries covertly. Re: the media, like a evangelical traveling pastor pitching his tent in a new surrounding every night, he gets a fresh cash crop from those wanting to pay to hear what they want... He does it under the name of Jesus..... The media does it under the name of capitalism. The very same capitalism that practices sexism and racism for profit. And the aristocrats lived happily ever after, as the useful fools, like the little piggie, went, oink, oink....... all the way home ;D |

It's as old as mankind Web. Money buys power. Power makes the rules. The stock market in a garden, where you plant the seeds you bought. It's can grow bountifully, giving you more money to buy more seeds. Now, would it be prudent to weed that garden so all the nutrients go to the good seeds? Now wouldn't you want to make sure it gets watered so it grows abundantly? Now wouldn't you want to harvest your bumper crop and take it to the market to sell so you can buy more power? You would if you want to make the rules. |

Agreed...huh? I think ray is laying out the "how" and those that benefit are unaware. If that is the case - I can see that. As for myself - my 401K has been doing gangbusters - but unlike a lot of folks I know - I'm constantly changing my allocations. I try to stay involved in the day to day. |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by raydawg on 07/14/17 at 11:46:08 Gee, in my mind I see my point clear as day ;D The stock is manipulated where it can be..... Why, because the ones that can, want to ensure their own success. It is a very sophisticated Ponzi scheme, with the puppet masters pulling the strings. A good market brings in more marks, us, all of us, we are not even on the radar screen no matter how much arm waving and calling attention to your self, sorry, your a turd in the lawn, smell it! When the fruit gets ripe, they pick it, hopefully we can grab a little on the lower hanging branches. It is the way it is, Why..... I told you why. He who holds the power, make the rules. Go pretend otherwise, you'll be just as hungry as all the other peasants when the aristocracy closes the market doors. I got lots tied up in the game too. It's all paper, won't taste good if it's worthless, no matter how much bravado you sprinkle on it. I am on the verge of retiring, and when I do, it's all going in CD's a lower paying promise that is still just paper. |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by Trippah on 07/14/17 at 14:11:43 The stock market see's a Republican (Pro-Business) Congress and White House; money that was stored for the past eight years suddenly comes forward for investment because they believe the tax system will be modified to be more accepting of wealth earned by investment. (If it can be - editorial comment). They also expect the rewrite of health care will provide for the wealthy, tax credits for costs for example (much like home interest tax credit). :o |

You could interpret it that way. But what about the gains of the previous 8 years? Obama was definitely pro-business. Maybe too much so. Yes, I know we had a republican Congress for 6 of those. But if you look at the gains - well, it's pretty much a 45 degree climb since 2009. i don't think you can deny that. Either way, my investments have been paying off well. But I hardly think it's all "republican" - IMHO. |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by Armen on 07/15/17 at 15:48:31 Raydawg, I'm with you. The older I get, the more conservative my investments become. Can't weather another crash. The way I look at it, the NY Money Mafia elected this guy. It makes sense that the market went up. He is promising to lower the cap gains on investment income. So, I'm figuring until that happens, the market will continue to go up in anticipation of it. His real beef with Obamacare was that the ultra rich were paying some of their investment income to fund it. For the market to go this high this fast, it kinda has to backtrack at some point. When it does, I'll invest more. Scrounged up money in '09 to start a stock fund. Market was at 12,000, went to 6,000, went back up to 12,000 before long. Now it's 21,000+. To me, the thing to do now is take some of the gains and invest in real estate. Specifically, places you can rent to the lower middle class, and people just starting out. Odds are, they can't afford to buy, and maybe never will. Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em. YMMV -Armen |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by raydawg on 07/15/17 at 16:03:14 Armen, I thought about real estate, but that too is work, unless you are a big player who pays others do do the work.... Even small a triplex, good income per square foot, low maintence, etc, but I just want to "fold em" My wife still is working, 4 more years, she made a deal with a doctor that she would manage his practice, and she also has her own business, from home, which we have paid taxes on for over 20 years.... Its time that we cashed in on that, with travel, etc, on the business ;) Good luck, health, to you Sir! |

Title: Re: Stock Market Post by Armen on 07/15/17 at 16:13:02 Raydawg, Good luck and good health to you sir! Great to see someone able to retire well. We used to go to Fla to visit the folks. I'd say to my son (young at the time), "Look around here. Lots of old folks that still have to work. Lots of old folks in terrible shape. Protect your health, build your wealth." -Armen |
