US 7th Fleet: USS John S. McCain collides with merchant ship near Strait of Malacca

SOUTH CHINA SEA (WCSC) - The guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain was involved in a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of Singapore and the Strait of Malacca, according to officials with U.S. 7th Fleet Public Affairs.

The collision was reported at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, while the ship

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that our Navy might have a training and discipline problem. Maybe a bit too much focus on accommodating, women, homosexuals, transsexual folks, and other assorted snowflakes, aboard combat vessels, and not enough emphasis on basic seamanship?

From the fox report:

"An active-duty Navy officer expressed concern to Fox News over the training of young Navy officers aboard ships.

“It’s not the same level of training you used to get,” the officer said."

Well, as many of us have long wondered: does the all volunteer service measure uP? I suspect you need a draft to get enough people with grey matter in the services to keep them functioning given how high tech they all have become. Yeah, I know, standing watch looking for a big ship that might ram into the one you are on seems high tech to me also.

I am pleased they have removed the Fleet Admiral, as obviously his fleet is not up to basic standards. (Basic standard to me is keeping the fleet above water when in a non combat situation.) ;D ;D
