Post by T And T Garage on 09/06/17 at 07:46:45 Sucks to be you if you're trying to fly out of Florida ahead of Irma.... http://finance.yahoo.com/news/travelers-complain-steep-airfares-try-escape-hurricane-irmas-path-224013499.html I went to the site myself and looked up a "cheap" fare for only $915.... Yeah, screw you people... we're making money, honey.... |

Title: Re: Yay! Unchecked Capitalism! Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/06/17 at 11:01:46 Who's stupid enough to believe they could haul everyone who could pay standard fare before it hit? So, the market sets the price and the price regulates the Demand. The people who can pay get out . Fewer people on the road. I'm gonna guess you didn't read the article I posted just after Harvey hit. Too bad. It really explained things. |

Yeah, maybe you would, but I have a conscience.[/quote] I've had enough business and economic discussions with you to know we don't have to worry about you running anything! At least not for very long! Again, economics is based on scarcity. If you had a mint condition Savage with no miles on it, the value of that item would go up. You would deny someone from owning that motorcycle only because they couldn't afford to pay you for that motorcycle. They would only be able to afford a less valuable motorcycle. By fluctuating the value of an airline ticket, it reduces the likelihood of a purchaser being someone who has the capability to drive away. This is why consumables increase in price during hurricanes. Instead of hording 10 cases of water, someone will buy only what they need. Do you not see that? |

Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/06/17 at 15:31:13 Price is not so important now, since flights can't leave, BECAUSE THE Lowlife TSA ran out and somehow they can shut the airport down just because They are not there. The assumed authority is ridiculous. I don't fly, because I would go to jail. https://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/theyre-afraid-wind-rain-ever-actually-encountered-turrist/ |

Title: Re: Yay! Unchecked Capitalism! Post by MnSpring on 09/06/17 at 17:45:13 Well, the, Ultra-Liberal, Progressive, B.S. Supporters, Most Probably will not have any comment. From the Site Quoted above: “…the TSA only “keeps people safe” in good weather…” “…Hurricane Irma has frightened the Thieves and Sexual Assailants at Key West International Airport into abandoning their checkpoints tonight,…” “…It seems the TSA needs to revise its “mission”: “Gropes the nation’s passengers except when storms send its cowardly deviants scurrying…” Sounds a lot like, Bernie, saying: “Good for me, but not you” |

Instead, I will be watching the Patriots, being a fan orig from their locale. I would like to note it has been fun even with the crap MnSpring throws onto the screen and JOG's persistent paranoia of cabals etc. T&T seems closest to me politically so keep up the good fight. Rawdawg is a continent away, but as a retired Audiologist, am curious if you use sign? pg and webstermark, I feel bad that you seem to like Tweety enough to forgive or look beyond his a moral attitude. I note he just listed the donation orgs for his pledged million, hope someone follows up. One of the reasons I'm giving up this site is to avoid the T news that pops up as I go onto the net, I try to avoid any T news including tv. Again thanks for the Summer of political Bsing but since I no longer ride, I feel I no longer am. "Hasta la Vista, Baby" And no, I would not try to shaft the folks if I owned an airline; I'd rather help them regardless of the size of their wallets. (I was raised a Christian) ::) |

Title: Re: Yay! Unchecked Capitalism! Post by WebsterMark on 09/07/17 at 04:54:25 LOL - if you're so GD smart, why don't you know the difference between a product and a service, hmm? The economics are different - didn't you know that?????? LOL You may want to go fill out a ID10T form and think about it. Really? Would you care to explain how the fluctuation in prices of a service differ from the fluctuating in prices of a product especially durning a time of duress? So if you have to call a HVAC tech on July 4th cause your AC crapped out, your red, white and blue ice creme cake is melting and your wife is ready to shoot you because you told her last night you fixed it and now you've got a house full of hot, smelly guest, if that tech says its time and a half on Sundays and double time on holidays, what are you gonna tell him? "Sorry, but I don't believe the prices of service fluctuate due to demand." |

You would do that same thing too Trip because by doing that, you ensure safety for a greater number of people. And if you really believed what you're saying, next time you sell something on Craigslist that maybe is unique or rare, put in the ad you'll offer discounts for those who can't pay market value. And don't feel sorry for me. I have no illusions about Trump's morals. JFK screwed every woman or girl that came into the White House and made them do his friends while he watched As did LBJ. Clinton raped at least one woman and watched a young girl masturbate with a cigar while Arafat waited for a meeting. As far as anyone knows, the two Bushs and Obama didn't feel that need but that's not to say they were innocent. Now if you're leaving and feel the need for parting shots, don't come back. Godspeed Trip. |

Title: Re: Yay! Unchecked Capitalism! Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/07/17 at 07:00:36 What we really need is price controls! That's what we otta do, just lock the price in. And how many people actually WANT to abandon the car? And what happens to all the people who go to the airport to be flown to safety? Just because they can rent you a seat for$100.00 doesn't mean there are enough airplanes to get it done. Now, you jack the price up and then they can AFFORD to bring planes in from other routes, stranding thousands, and pay ground crews, but you lot don't see squat. Just point and cry, |

Well, first off web - getting an HVAC guy to come to your house in a self-inflicted emergency is NOT the same as price gouging the public in a state of emergency. . There is no threat to life if you don't get your AC fixed. Second, you can't "hoard" airline tickets the way you do water or any other product. Speaking of which, instead of jacking the price, there should be rationing or quotas imposed on the purchase of necessities like water and other staples. But, as we've seen, capitalists don't really care about the people, they only care about profit. Third - going back to my initial statement about goods and services - there are clear distinctions between the two - duh. You can't treat them as one in the same. (with you being a "businessman", I thought you would have known that....lol) All you have to do is look at the stock price of AA - look at the dip it took when there was word about gouging. Funny how that works, huh? Then look at the stock price of say, Pepsico. Even though retailers were trying to gouge people for buying water, that product suffered no "ill". However, those retailers who provide a service of selling products... well, folks will remember who tried to charge them $50 for a case of water. So...this goes to show that ESPECIALLY in times of emergency, SERVICE must be constant and NOT take advantage of those in need. Get it? Oh - by the way - where's all that proof of me being a liar???? Gonna try to back that one up little guy? |

You can't treat them as one in the same. (with you being a "businessman", I thought you would have known that....lol) Yes, you can. You absolutely can and all of us do it everyday. You are NOT ignorant of these facts, you know them after growing up in a capitalistic society. We all learn these things starting with ice cone and lemonade stands as children. You are just trying to argue a point and did not think about what you wrote. I'm giving you the chance to say, ' you know what, on second thought, it is true that the prices of goods and services fluctuate by the same market mechanisms.' And, are you saying American Airlines stock dipped because they increased their price of airline tickets out of Florida this week? |

Title: Re: Yay! Unchecked Capitalism! Post by WebsterMark on 09/07/17 at 10:20:41 If Bobby has lemonade for 50¢ on one side of the street and Suzy has the same lemonade for 25¢ on the other, Suzy's gonna get the sales. However, if Bobby's front yard has puppies to pet and Suzy doesn't - the value add of Bobby's yard will win out. You can't charge more for the same product as your competitor for no reason. Sorry, but didn't you just prove my point? The price fluctuation for goods and services both use the same mechanisms? A better example is if Bobby and Suzy both add a delivery service to their stands. They each start delivering to the elderly who are unable to leave their houses. Bobby agrees to take the north side of their street while Suzy takes the south side. For everyone else, they compete for business. Bobby has some customers on Suzy's side of the street and Suzy has some customers on Bobby's side. Because there's a finite number of lemonade cups they can sell during the day and each delivery takes time away from the stand, they realize they are losing other sales by being away. So they both add a .10 fee to each delivery. During a particularly brutal heat wave, the elderly are demanding three times as many delivers per day. Bobby makes all these trips and adds .10 each time. However, as he's gone from his stand, he's loosing all his other customers who find other ways to get cool drinks. Susy on the other hand, increases her delivery fee to .25 per cup. Her elderly only buy two cups per day. If they want more, they find other ways to get a cool drink. Susy spends more time at her stand selling lemonade cups to walk up customers. Now, pull back and looking at this from 30,000 ft, Suzy has delivered her product to more people and 'forced' her elderly to find other methods to find a cool drink. Bobby on the other hand, lost revenue and didn't supply lemonade to nearly as many. Neither Bobby or Suzy lost a single customer to death because they couldn't get that extra drink and no one died because an airline ticket was $500 instead of $99. Isn't your life worth more to you than the $400 difference? Yes, I'm saying that their price dropped BECAUSE they gouged. You see, when you sell a service, it has nothing tangible. ALL you have is your service. Now, when you jack up a price of your service for no reason other than "because you can in an emergency" - people take notice and they let you know by not wanting to invest in your company. Very simple actually. Word of mouth makes or breaks you. Pretty common knowledge in any business. Honestly, do you really think anyone sold AA stock at a loss because of this hurricane? Did you read this somewhere? I don't own AA stock but I did just read they are down the past several months because of missed projections. Now, AA might face a backlash and they very well may issue some type of apology and some coupons or something to try and make up with the marketplace. And if this happens again, I suspect they'll go out of their way not to raise their price and they'll make sure everyone hears them say that. By the way, JetBlue most likely made a business decision based on marketing not to raise their price as they advertised their decision not to. |

Title: Re: Yay! Unchecked Capitalism! Post by WebsterMark on 09/07/17 at 13:28:05 Talk about straw man....! You are doing everything you can to avoid admitting you made a colossal error by going against logical economics. Look, I'll let you off the hook: Pricing for goods and services can both fluctuate by the same market mechanisms. You were just trying to look smart and typed that other crap before you thought it through. Now you're going to try and divert attention from the original point you foolishly called me an idiot on. Punt now, don't answer anymore on this thread or you'll certainly type something equally foolish. You already started another idiotic idea by trying to bring up AA stock going down because of this. I would like to say you can't be that stupid, but..... |
