Title: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by Papa Bear on 11/14/17 at 17:36:01 Will a 64707-08 work well on our S40 ? It has the slotted mounting bracket. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Davidson-Mufflers-Part-64707-08/132388787635?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D41375%26meid%3Dd8c073795b38488d98355737299d31f3%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D152672218711&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850 |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by Dave on 11/15/17 at 05:05:12 Those mufflers have a catalyst in them - they will work fine....the catalyst can get very hot....and that can result in the chrome at the front of the muffler being more prone to bluing. Use eBay to search "Harley 65747-94", and you should get a lot of lower cost choices. |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by Papa Bear on 11/15/17 at 05:36:10 Thanks, guys. I just used the eBay link as a reference to the muffler I was talking about. There is an add on Kijiji for a very good pair of 64707-08 take-offs from a 2011 Superglide in original condition (good chrome and innards) for $60 Canadian ($47 US) locally. I only need one and they don't want to split the pair so we'll have to see what kind of deal can be struck. I just needed to know that the 64707-08 was a good fit for my bike. Hope you all have a great day ! ;) Bob |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by justin_o_guy2 on 11/15/17 at 10:08:26 You can have a spare or sell in the marketplace. |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by Papa Bear on 11/15/17 at 10:14:45 Shipping charges to/from/within Canada are prohibitive. Selling the extra muffler really isn't an option as freight cost would exceed the value of the piece. |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by IslandRoad on 11/15/17 at 11:32:59 I bought a pair from someone who wouldn't split them as well. I like the idea of having a spare anyway, in case one gets damaged. However I noticed they have different sized exit holes. I used the larger one. I figure I may need to adjust the jetting if I ever have to switch to the other one. |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by Tocsik on 11/15/17 at 11:53:15 Before you pay for shipping, put a "want to buy" ad on your local Craigslist (or equivalent). That's how I got mine. A new-condition pair with the clamps and heatshields for $40. I phrased my ad like: "Clear the clutter out of your garage!" or something like that and I think it hit home. |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by Jody72 on 03/21/18 at 13:49:55 so what is the best muffler to put on? or do you just if any old muffle and clamp it on? |

Choose one based on the look, sound, and performance you want ... and fit/mounting. The muffler linked to by the op of this thread is popular for the savage because it's a reasonably close fit and mount, it sounds a bit louder and deeper than the stock muffler, and has similar back pressure to the stock muffler. Therefore it can be tuned easily by re-jetting the carb. It's also inexpensive as many HD riders take them off a new bike to install custom mufflers. |

Title: Re: 65747-94 muffler substitute Post by ohiomoto on 03/26/18 at 15:22:54 I got a nice pair of 64941-01 mufflers. They look a little larger/longer than the one I have on my bike now. Any info in these? |
