Title: Electrical Issues with 2001 Savage LS650 Post by JerrySavage on 01/18/18 at 08:31:38 I'm new to this site but I've been having electrical issues with a 2001 suzuki savage that I just bought. Its got about 6k miles on it and in relatively good condition. The other day I went to start up my bike and when I tried to crank it the bike didn't even turn over and all of the lights and everything electrical died. And now none of the lights are coming on and i've lost all power. The battery is new but I checked it and its fully charged and the terminals are fine and the two fuses that I found are intact as well. What is my next move? |

I haven't had time to check everything else that yall just commented on but I fully charged the battery and replaced the fuses and now the brake light is turning on when the key is turned to park but no other lights are turning on and when I have the key turned to On I still have no power at all, not even the brake light. And when the brake light does turn on it is dim at first and then gets brighter after a minute. Does this mean anything to yall? |

Corrosion inside the lamp socket, bad ground, one or both? You've got gremlins. Nobody knows exactly where you need to look. We know what can cause those things, you'll need to check things out. If you changed fuses and changed the problem, either one was blown Or you knocked corrosion out or both. Inspect the fuses you removed and the fuse block. How long did it sit? Oil the cylinder, don't wanna wreck it.j I read it again. Sounds like you've been riding it. Too late to o I l it now. |

Title: Re: Electrical Issues with 2001 Savage LS650 Post by batman on 01/18/18 at 16:36:25 You REALLY need to check the battery cables ,clean and tighten!You should at that point at least have lights, Starting may not occur due to faulty switches, etc. Be careful with the key position ,leaving the key in the on position without starting the bike can ruin the ignition module . removing the key in the park position will leave the tail light on killing the battery. |

They can pull some and still look like they are good. Actually take them apart and put them back together. They will cause this sort of problem. One on each side under the tank. |

Title: Re: Electrical Issues with 2001 Savage LS650 Post by stewmills on 01/19/18 at 15:04:02 I just had gremlins in my well maintained 4 wheeler. Ended up being a factory splice in the harness that wiggled loose. Bad issue with that model, but I don't think these bikes are known for that or if they even have factory splices in the harness. Only way I found mine was chasing a wiring diagram for several days. One other issue I had was sometimes the whole dash panel was dead as if the battery was disconnected. Wires tested good, and it ended up just being a dirty harness connector. Cleaned both sides with a soaking of wd40 and a toothbrush and compressed air and no more issues. Good luck! |
