I agree with the spirit of the article - even though as zerohedge often does - parts of it are incorrect.  Look through it and cross-reference each section and you will find them not that it even matters.  "Tyler Durden" or Daniel Ivandjiiski isn't exactly known for caring about facts.

What I have learned recently is that the challenges I had are completely different even though I want to compare them equally.  For instance only "13% of kids walk to school" which I would like to say is a contributing issue to the "too safe" issue (I rode my bike 7miles to high school, and walked in winter when it was too icy) But lets compare that to the amount of kids that are heroine/prescription drug addicts and tell me that we should work on getting more kids to walk over getting more kids in treatment.

Rough, tough, adrenaline junky, not skeerd o Nuthin types can get strung out.
They aren't mutually exclusive nor are they related.
Raising wimps is raising wimps.
Wimps and badasses are faced by the same drug taking decision.
I suspect that the elementary school kids are largely unaware of drugs, and probably can't find the money if they had a source. I know there are some, but that's not the point.
The whole point of the article is

Being so paranoid about your kid scraping a knee and getting them to not ever take a risk is a long term setup for being afraid to take the chances that a life well lived requires.

I agree that we can't raise kids to be too safe however I believe the majority factor is lawsuits when it comes to organizations like churches or schools - after school programs etc.  As for parents that's on them.

As for grade school kids prescription drugs are more of an issue that Schedule 1 narcotics.  Especially ones born as addicts due to their mother using during pregnancy - they have that issue for life even after the high-risk OB detox programs.
