Title: Added Saddlebags & relocated turn signals
Post by Blueraven on 03/10/18 at 16:24:23

Came across a "going out of business sale" at a local Indie shop and found a set of Saddlemen "Cruis'in" saddlebags that just seemed to be the right fit for my Wife's new S40.

Of course like most things it's never that simple.
The challenge was how to hard mount the bags and relocate the turn signals.

I was able to score a set of OEM saddlebag supports from forum member "Dave" and that gave me the base support that I needed.

Then I had to figure out where to relocate the turn signals and I got some good ideas from this forum.
I ended up getting a NOS Yamaha license plate bracket and a set of K&S turn signals for a Kawasaki off e-bay that worked great.

After a day of screwing around I got the bags mounted and the turn signals relocated.
I did have to reverse the rear axle shaft due to if left as is the left saddlebag could hit the shaft on big bump.  No big deal since the muffler side has more room.

I think it all turned out very nicely.

I'm not sure how if it's possible to attach multiple pictures so I guess I add them one at a time.

If she doesn't dig the seat, the old two piece ones are more comfortable.
Raising the front helps.

Thanks for the tip.
I hope to get her on it and start training her soon.

If she takes to riding on her own she'll likely only be riding the S40 for a season or two then the plan is to move to a Harley Sportster for a year of two and then to perhaps a Harley Heritage.
Of course that's a bit of journey.

If she doesn't take to riding on her own the S40 will likely go to my Son as his first bike.

In any case I think I'm in good shape financially.
I've only got about $1600 into the '05 S40 with 2700 miles on it and that includes new tires, brakes, battery and saddlebags.
I purchased it a couple of months ago during a winter storm and it was -10 degrees outside so it was a "buyer's" market.

I can't believe you found someone to come outside to sell it.
You stole it.

That's what you call inexpensive motorcycling.

Nice installation by the way. :)
