Gowdy on McCabe’s Firing: He ‘Undercut His Credibility All by Himself’

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.) said former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe "undercut his credibility all by himself" while discussing his firing on "Fox News Sunday."

Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe on Friday, over an unreleased internal report alleging McCabe directed FBI officials to speak to the press about a Clinton Foundation investigation and then misled investigators, according to CNN. President Donald tweeted McCabe's dismissal was a "great day for democracy."

The firing drew outrage from Trump administration critics, who felt it was part of an effort to impeach McCabe as a witness in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. McCabe released a statement that his firing was an attempt to affect his credibility.

"Oh, Andy McCabe has undercut his credibility all by himself," Gowdy said after host Chris Wallace read part of McCabe's statement. "He didn't need any help doing that, and I find it richly ironic that he is lamenting that those are attacking the FBI when he himself does the exact same thing. It was the FBI who said he made an unauthorized disclosure and then lied about it."

"That wasn't President Trump," he added. "It wasn't me. It wasn't the crazy House Republicans. It was his own fellow FBI agents that said he leaked and then lied about it, so if he's got credibility issues, he need look no further than himself."

Gowdy added he would reserve full judgment on the matter and the proportionality of the punishment until the Justice Department's Inspector General's report, but he said agency members didn't get to choose when to tell the truth.

"Make no mistake. The FBI is who recommended that he be fired. It wasn’t crazy House Republicans and it wasn’t the Trump administration," Gowdy said. "It was his own fellow bureau agents."

This whole fiasco, all the madness, and energy, from so many folks, is doing nothing but lowering the bar.........

I think you're seeing it wrong, Ray.
This is pulling the scabs off.
We're on the cusp of changing the character of government. Clapper straight up lied and the statute of limitations has expired. The alleged
Investigation into Hillary was a cover-up.
And I hope we get to the bottom of the corruption.
Wasserman Schultz and her IT guys should be in prison.
Our representatives have been deaf to the will of the People for decades. They became so accustomed to the raping and pillaging of our country that they have become so arrogant in the pursuit of Their goals that anyone not in a coma has to see it. Look at the wars they lied us into. The debt that goes With those wars and the massive wealth transferred to the people who benefit from a war.
How is YOUR life better because of Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan?
Why are we paying to pursue something that doesn't benefit the American People?

Jog, believe me bro, I think you and I have a pretty good idea of who each one of us are, etc.
Yes, I believe the guy and girl sending those thousands of emails re: Trump are closer to the truth than what is being reported.
Why McCabe and Comey broke from tradition and kept so call notes/memos a on meeting a president shows at the very least, a prejudice going into these meetings......
Based on what, Trump a TV personality and businessman who these very same folks took money from, or shared weddings, photo ops, etc, in each other’s company......
You don’t need to be too savvy to see a narrative is being scripted.
The why, I think precedes Trump by many, many, years.
He just wasn’t suppose to win, period.
Not that he isn’t the buffoon he appears to be, Dubya was pretty strange in many ways too, however, he was in the loop, of enflunce that drives this power in DC......

I am talking about folks being duped as useful fools by Russia, media, etc.

The table will turn, the outrage will be reversed, and the bar lower to what is accusatory actions.

I am reminded of a guy who cheats on his wife, and tells me he can’t trust his wife.

On my way to work, last day before I get my new face tomorrow  ;D

I will check in occasionally today.

Good ol' Faux News spinning it sideways...

Trump shot his own foot off by firing McCabe just 26 hrs before retirement...
McCabe took notes... just like Comey.
This is clear obstruction.
Trump is over.

Notes are unsubstantiated facts.....

So, I could write a note, based on my own desires to list stuff, hope you have a wire and tape to back it up, or it’s just heresy.

Not admissible in our courts for a very good reason.

Not to even mention the IG is a independent investigation not selling a book.
If you are to give one sided accounts of their recollection weight, then you must consider the emails between the FBI agent and his girlfriend, who via his email testimony writes of bias and prejudice AND possible obstruction.

Funny how some call the Bible fairytales, but find truth in other writings they have no proof to the veracity  ;D

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/3/17/17133284/donald-trump-andrew-mccabe-jeff-sessions-fired-former-fbi-director

"McCabe’s firing shows how Trump has corroded the operations of the American government. There are real questions about McCabe’s performance at the FBI. But there are even deeper questions about Trump’s public vendetta against McCabe, and the role Sessions played in his termination.

"McCabe is not innocent of wrongdoing. He made a questionable call (at best) about allowing a leak to the press during the 2016 campaign and then he appears to have lied about it, though he says it was an honest mistake. You can imagine a normal administration, and a normal process, weighing McCabe’s actions carefully and seriously.

"But none of this is why Trump wanted McCabe gone, and “carefully and seriously” is not how the process was conducted. Trump wanted McCabe gone because of McCabe’s involvement in the Justice Department investigation of Russian meddling in the campaign. Trump thinks McCabe is a Comey-aligned Democrat who was biased against him. Trump believes his political appointees should protect him. Trump has been explicit in public about all of this. And he has spent months publicly slandering McCabe and pressuring Sessions to fire him.

House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who often has fought the Republicans over the actions of President Trump and the FBI, said on Sunday that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe's firing from the bureau might be "justified."

However...

Trump’s campaign had already worked. McCabe announced his retirement. The Trump administration fired him on Friday not to remove him from government, but to deny him the pension earned for over 20 years of government service. It was an act of punishment, not of personnel management.

This, then, is part of the cost of Trump’s daily venality: even when his administration makes a decision that might be justifiable on its own terms, the process by which that decision was made cannot be trusted, and may indeed be a scandal in its own right.

Surely McCabe is allowed his say...

McCabe disputes this interpretation. In his searing statement upon being fired, he wrote:

The OIG investigation has focused on information I chose to share with a reporter through my public affairs officer and a legal counselor. As Deputy Director, I was one of only a few people who had the authority to do that. It was not a secret, it took place over several days, and others, including the Director, were aware of the interaction with the reporter. It was the same type of exchange with the media that the Deputy Director oversees several times per week. In fact it was the same type of work that I continued to do under Director Wray, at his request. The investigation subsequently focused on who I talked to, when I talked to them, and so forth. During these inquiries, I answered questions truthfully and as accurately as I could amidst the chaos that surrounded me. And when I thought my answers were misunderstood, I contacted investigators to correct them.

Sessions’ explanation of the firing boils down to this line: “Integrity is our brand.” The Department of Justice cannot afford even the perception of malfeasance or improper behavior.

But this is coming from an attorney general who appears to be crossing ethical lines himself in making this decision. Sessions recused himself, in no uncertain terms, from any questions related to the investigations into the Clinton campaign or Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election:

Mr. Chairman, it was a highly contentious campaign. I, like a lot of people, made comments about the issues in that campaign. With regard to Secretary Clinton and some of the comments I made, I do believe that that could place me objectivity in question. I’ve given that thought.

I believe the proper thing for me to do, would be to recuse myself from any questions involving those kind of investigations that involve Secretary Clinton and that were raised during the campaign or to be otherwise connected to it. —Sessions.

But now Sessions is firing McCabe for activities undeniably related to the Clinton investigation, and after public pressure from Trump, who is explicitly angry at McCabe for activities relating to the Russia investigation, which Sessions is also recused from.
