I noticed this year that after the latest school massacre donald actually broke with GOP ranks and pushed for better checks on the mentally ill to posses guns. But then he actually backtracked on that after pressure from the NRA.

OK I get you guys love guns, but I don't get that you love them so much that you even want mentally ill people to possess them?

Which crazy people who have been on a killing spree did these criteria apply to?

Under the rule, a person first had to file a disability claim with SSA for Social Security welfare benefits citing mental impairment. SSA then had to confirm that that claimant’s “impairment(s) meets or medically equals” requirements of the SSA’s Mental Disorder Listing Of Impairments (or the ‘blue book’). Claimants, finally, must be so “incapable of managing benefit payments” that they receive their Social Security benefit payments through a “representative payee.”

If and only if these criteria were met would a person’s name have been forwarded by SSA to NICS. These are not easy criteria to meet.

I have issue with the 'hold them', as far as I can tell he could 'have' them. 'Hold' implies he was looking after them. If his father gave them back to his mentally ill son, then the father should be charged with accessory to murder.

One concern is the question of what is mental illness?

We all know is some one is going around ranting and raving and talking about doing things bad, should not have a gun.

But how far is the rule going to go?
In the state I am in I know a guy that is trusted by the US government to work with rifles up to howitzers but he may not be able to get a New Jersey gun permit for he saw a physicist when he was a child for mental exhaustion.

So where do you draw the line?

I use a helmet when I ride a motorcycle. And I think everyone should!
But I would fight a helmet law, not because I am against a helmet law, but what law are they going to try to pass after they pass a helmet law? Knee protectors? Mandatory air bags on motorcycle?

Seems like That class of people ARE the victims of crime
They might just need a gun.

It's your hair to split regarding the gun thing. I'm outraged he gave his idiot son the guns back.

You REALLY need to understand history and WHY the second amendment exists and stop trying to wreck it.

Maybe before you buy into every time the media make a claim, do some digging.
It's never the whole story.
Media would have you believe he did something idiotic, fuel your outrage, justify the hate.

(In understanding the importance of the 2nd,
while living in a Country that does Not, (nor ever had), one.)

One reason would be, close to,
someone who has a single speed bicycle,
and just Loves riding it.
They will ardently Struggle up hill, standing up, and, ‘Pumping’, to get to the top of a hill, so they can, ‘glide’ down it.
They have heard of this bike, with a motor on it, but never ridden one, don’t know anyone that ever had one, or even seen one.
Then one day, someone gives him a S-40, and a drum of gas.

Perhaps that person, will learn to understand, and control the S-40.
Or they may, go, ’Nuts’, and Plow into a crowd, killing several.

If they kill several bystanders.
Most certainly, to prevent that from Ever Happening Again,
ALL Bicycles with Motors are BANNED.
So back to the single speed,
‘Pumping’ up hill,
so one can, ‘glide’ down it.

And the the, First Reason is ?

Oh, that's correct,
it has never, and never will, exist,
in your Country.
Like, just about every other Country.

So people from those other countries,
are trying very hard to get people/puppets,
in this Nation, to sing the same song.

I've not met anyone from another country that is actively trying to eliminate firearms from the American populous.

I can't find any information stating that anyone is trying to place firearms in the hands of the mentally ill, or prevent it from happening. I just keep in mind that Trump can say things but that doesn't mean it will actually happen.

The Dewey-Wicker Amendment does state: "none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may be used to advocate or promote gun control"

So that in my mind is the largest obstacle to keeping 2nd Amendment in place while reducing gun related homicide.

Greetings Matchless, that is a fair point, I was recently asked by a copper, 'do you have any a mental illness. I replied, 'who doesn't'. Which had him laughing.
