Will you be able to keep the belt drive?
How will the rear brake connect - will the Savage brake slip in?

I believe the rear brake will "just slip in" .   I'm sure I'll have to go to a 130 series tire and that is OK.

Yes , I'll keep the belt at all cost .    After getting rid of the chain lube and constant adjustment I don't think I could go back to the mess and maintance !  ::)

You'll need a disc from a gs450 cut down to match the savage and about 0.28 or 0.32 (I forget which) spacers to align with the caliper.

I'll be interested to see how this turns out. Good luck.

There's a thread in the tech section for the conversion and another in rsd called whale.

The biggest issue I had was getting the right spacers.  But I also have spare wheels so if I get a flat or just wear out a tire it's no issue.

The rear wheel is easy, the brake does slip right in there, the belt pulley does as well, and the 130/90-16 (Metzler 880) seemed to be essentially the same width as the 140/90-15.

I thought this was being done so you don't need any tubes?

Why do you believe these rims need tubes? :-?

Mike, I have a disc turned down to the right dia. I used it on mine till I went to a bigger disc and dual piston caliper. I used 2 washers tween the caliper and mount. Let me know if you are interested.

Dave , the early GS rims (before 1983 ,  are not tubeless) ,they still required use of a tube. So if your planning to go tubeless rather than just change tire size ,you need to know if the rims come from a bike 83 or newer.

Mine did not need a tube...trying to remember what year it is.   :-?

OK, found the file on it, I've got an '83 rear wheel.

I believe the only difference maybe the design of the bead.
It maybe the same design, just not DOT certified.
On tubeless rims you'll find "tubeless" engraved somewhere.
