Title: Rim swap Post by SavageMan99 on 06/07/18 at 10:14:24 Wondering what's the latest info on direct swaps to aluminum rims? Want to lose the spokes, but keep the tires. |

Title: Re: Rim swap Post by SavageMan99 on 06/23/18 at 15:35:18 Thank you, so, The rim list so far is, 83-85 GS or GL models, 450, 550, 650 cc, 450 is a direct swap, 550 & 650 require the 450 brake rotor. |

Title: Re: Rim swap Post by SavageMan99 on 06/23/18 at 16:19:56 Does anyone know what changed in 86? |

Title: Re: Rim swap Post by smokin_blue on 06/24/18 at 05:59:41 There were many things changing for different models in different years. You need to watch based on model and year whether the rear wheel is disc or drum brake. The front wheels are more common through out the years. If I remember right I believe all the GS Mag front wheels had the same mounting bolt pattern for the disc's. The disc itself might be different between some models. If you haven't already, go to a suzuki dealer web site and go to OEM parts. They have a search tool that is bi-directional. First look up a wheel that you know will fit. Then take that pn and go back to the tool and look it up by PN this time. It will pull up the part and have a link for models it was used on. Then start taking notes. Sometimes when there were superseded numbers you want to do the where used search on both numbers. |

Title: Latest input on cast wheel donors? Post by SavageMan99 on 05/12/19 at 12:15:50 Any updated info out there? I was under the impression that GL GS 450 rims are a direct swap? |

Title: Re: Latest input on cast wheel donors? Post by ohiomoto on 05/12/19 at 14:58:35 Instead of starting a new thread on the topic, why not bump the the one you already started. You had a few replies there already. And if you follow the links, you'll see that someone had issues swapping the 18" rear wheel from the GS450E. |

Title: Re: Latest input on cast wheel donors? Post by badwolf on 05/12/19 at 15:18:58 Suzuki used these rims from the late 70's thru mid 80's or so. Different widths and some were tube type, some were tubeless. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-SUZUKI-GS1100G-GS-1100-G-FRONT-WHEEL-RIM-19X-2-15-22812/192796448326?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 This is one that would be good for the front. You will have to do some work to get the brake to fit thou. If you want one to just swap bolt-on, NO. I have a GS850 rear on one of my bikes and that was a bolt-on, brake and drive hub. Can't remember if the spacers were the same. 16" x2.50" thou, not 15''. |

If you follow along some of the other threads posted here and then the links posted in those, you'll see references to the Whale (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1205292181) thread. In there you'll find that one of the members had some difficulties with the 18" GS450E rear wheel. Furthermore, there is a strong possibility that the 450 wheels were not tubeless. Of course, not all 450s had 18" wheels so YRMV. ------------- 4473746856616E060 wrote:
--------------------- And FYI, the 450E wheels are only 1.60 and 1.85 front and rear respectively. I know, because I have an 81 sitting in my garage. |

Title: Re: Rim swap Post by SavageMan99 on 05/12/19 at 21:50:46 Ok, gs850 rear. Will an 850 front work? I'd want to keep them matched. |

Title: Re: Rim swap Post by SavageMan99 on 05/15/19 at 09:05:26 So, anyone have a list yet, of direct swaps or closest things to it? I'd really like to keep it as simple as possible, with matching styles. Also, considering a maurader front end swap, so does that open up possibilities? BTW, yes I ask a lot of questions, yes I'm remedial, yes I forget things, no, the search function does not work for me. :-? |

Title: Re: Rim swap Post by ohiomoto on 05/15/19 at 09:19:50 There is no list that I can find, so you'll have to read more. The search function works well, but you have to take the time to learn how it works. |

No list, most often swap is the GS450/550/850 wheels. Find the ones you like, check the brake and drive hubs. Nothing is readily available, so be tenacious. Marauder swap brings many headaches. wheels don't match, disk doesn't match, spindle doesn't match. making it match... priceless. ;D http://suzukisavage.com/yabb2.2/Attachments/beast5-28-15.jpg |
