Title: The Moral High Ground
Post by T And T Garage on 08/07/18 at 14:37:54

With the news - that the President of the United States lied to the American people readers are no doubt wondering "where to from here?" The two schools of thought can be summed up in the choices presented through various and diverse sources, namely, move on or move out.

The "move on" crowd's argument goes something like this; 'the President admitted he made a mistake, you have your pound of flesh, now let's move on with the serious issues facing the country'. While this approach is appealing even to some of us who have little regard for the policies of this Administration, it's just not as simple as all that. The 'Move On Crowd's argument is predicated on the notion that presidents, just like the rest of us, ought to be entitled to a little privacy. This argument fails on two grounds; (A) The President made this issue public when he denied it eight months ago and (B) The President is not, by definition, 'like the rest of us'.

So we get to the other, and in my view, only school of thought remaining. For America to move on, and we must, the president must move out of the White House. Either the President should resign or be removed from office. Nothing short of this sad conclusion will suffice to restore the institution of the presidency to its former and necessary glory."

I did not write this.

You all should find out who did.....

Do you really think, that anybody, except your puppets,
that read posts here.

Are going to ‘fall’ for your ‘inference’ that,
that was recently written ?

Is he trying to infer that it was written recently or was he trying to indicate that Pence wrote that?

The question I get out of it is if those standards existed in the 90's, why don't they exist today?

No.  But I would hope people like you would read it, search on it and see just how hypocritical this administration is.

Who's morality?

Seems morality is subjective, often changing depending on who is in power.

Well ray, I didn't write the article, this sin't about my morality - I posted it for everyone else to read and get their take on it.  This is about the author now changing his morality because now his guy is in office.

How many times do I have to post about the massive hypocrisy of this administration? (that's rhetorical)

Just say you, and the author agree then....
Why can’t you be frank, and truthful, over such a obvious post by you?
What are you trying to avoid, accountability?

Seriously ray?  You're asking me "why can't you be frank?"  Did you forget this exchange between you and I?

T - Did your original post have a point?  If so, I'm curious as to what it was.

R - Thanks, I appreciate your interest.....
But again, this format seems to be more about personality’s than it is about debate and consensus......
It’s hard enough to dialogue live, this media is next to impossible.

T - OK.  I'll leave it at that then.  There was no point.

R - Perfect, thanks.

Be "frank"?  How can you ask that when pretty much everything you post could be asked that same question?

If I have to spell it out, I will.

The original statement I posted was from mike pence on Bill Clinton.

My point was simple.  Does mike pence still hold true to those convictions?
(I don't think he does - do you?)

That's the point of my point.  My morality doesn't enter into it.  I'm not the one who wrote it.  I'm not professing my morality - pence is.

Why does the quote have to have a direct nexus to the person posting it?

If I post a Machiavellian quote on the forum and ask about its morality does that automatically mean I agree with the original author?

So, Thumper's post is both calling you out and a little self depreciating.  He knows exactly what this is about.

Yet instead of agreeing with him, you must respond to keep pointing fingers at others.

So when Sarah Jeong says:

So it must mean that you believe that Sarah Jeong is a D.F.I.  and responsible for what she says.
And you must believe, Yahooooooooooo, 'news', is a D.F.I., for Blaming someone else, and making up all sorts of excuses for her ?

Trump has called the following people dogs on Twitter:
Glen Beck; Ted Cruz; David Gregory; Steve Bannon, Chuck Todd; George Will; Bill Maher and "Rev" Wright.

When the discussion of fake news comes up, this is a classic case. It's false that Trump used dog as a racist term. It's just flat out false. But it will be hinted at in some 'newscast' and spoken as absolute fact in others.

It's not a wish, it's a fact.  All you have to do is look at his twitter feed.  This is what's on public display - one can only imagine what he says in private.  Now it looks like omarosa (and mark burnett) might have proof of his racism.

Nothing on his twitter feed indicates he's racist. Racist is a serious charge with a very specific meaning that SHOULD require actual proof, not just disliking someone. Calling someone a dog who happens to be black when you've called dozens of people dogs who are white is not proof of racism.

Again "looks like" and actually having are two different things.

There's plenty of fuel for the fire:

"Sleepy eyes" Chuck Todd?
"fine people on both sides"?
"These aren’t people. These are animals."?
"Now this judge is of Mexican heritage, I'm building a wall."?
"bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists."?

And let's not forget the entire birther movement.

Again, none of that is proof of racism. (Chuck Todd?)

Labeling someone a racist should be a serious thing that requires serious evidence. By your standards, given what Bill Clinton said about Obama when Hilary was running against him, you should label him a racist. And by default, since Hilary didn't disagree with his comments or leave him, you should label her a racist too. Since you did not support Carson's presidential run, I could label you a racist. How far would I have to look to read a negative comment of yours about Clarence Thomas?

A racist has a specific meaning and watering it down for political gain doesn't help.

When Clinton said "he'd be getting us coffee", he was referring to his inexperience, not his race.  Still, Clinton could have chose different words.  And also still - not as bad as what our sitting president has said on a public forum.

No, you couldn't.  First off, I've never commented about his presidential run, and second, the reason I think he was a bad candidate is because of his incompetence, not his color.

How far would I have to look to read a negative comment of yours about Clarence Thomas?

Pretty far.  I don't think I've ever commented on Clarence Thomas.

A racist has a specific meaning and watering it down for political gain doesn't help.

OK, fair enough.  But by your logic, if one tweet doesn't make him a racist, then one tweet doesn't exonerate him either.

That is perhaps the biggest crock of manufactured BS seen on the TT in a while. That's not at all the truth. Everyone knows what he said and what he meant.

Insisting Trump is a racist on the order of real, genuine racist waters the definition down and makes progress impossible. This is why we're stuck in this logjam of race issues.

Race hustling is a major strategy of the Democratic party and now that Trump is busting that monopoly, you're doubling down to try and hang on. I just read his positive numbers with African Americans has doubled from 19 to 38%. If a fraction of the African American population woke up to the crap they've been sold,  the Democratic party would have to tear itself down and rebuild. Maybe this will be another great accomplishment by Trump.

Yeah, that Obama was too inexperienced to be a "serious" candidate.

But here you go again accusing someone of lying with zero proof, just to make yourself feel better.

Sad.

All you need to do is look at trump's history.  He's laid it out for everyone to see.

His supporters are just too blind to see.

It’s not my fault you are who you are. No one believes they were talking about Obama’s inexperience, everyone knew they were essentially calling him “boy”. That was the default position for Southern Democrats when Clinton was groomed for politics. They’ve changed to a degree but African Americans are foolish for blindly handing over support to national Democratic politicians year after year.

My point was good for Rahm for pointing out the obvious which means he's toast now. Yes, St Louis, like Chicago, LA, Baltimore etc are plagued with areas that are sh!tholes. Well, making blanket statements about cities doesn't help.  It gives the perception that "all is lost".

How about praising those "rises in the pit" instead of tearing down the entire city?
