Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by MShipley on 09/25/18 at 06:26:22 Well, this is where we are in this country now....you can not do anything without the permission of the Government.....but it is all for our own good. What is amazing is how many on this site want Government to control even more. |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by Eegore on 09/25/18 at 07:21:30 During Katrina people set up a rescue shelter where they took in whoever but mostly elderly. They registered everyone and promptly used that information to strip bank accounts and sell identities. At another "shelter" a group of five men raped a girl and her mother and these are only the reported victims of situations like this. Nonsense like that is why these regulations exist. I feel if a situation appears to be safe and modern tech is used by properly trained staff then allowing temporary, and only temporary shelters should be able to assist. I have no data or references, this is based off of my personal observations and actions in disaster areas that when compiled and posted represent my opinion. |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by WebsterMark on 09/25/18 at 07:46:41 Let's look at the group of five men. Let's examine their history. |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/25/18 at 09:53:12 You are looking at Prior Restraint. No. Full stop. No. Punish wrongdoing. Don't use the fact that someone used a bad event to perpetrate a crime. She isn't guilty of anything EXCEPT not being licensed. This is WRONG. |
|
Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by Eegore on 09/25/18 at 11:44:24 "She isn't guilty of anything EXCEPT not being licensed." So she's guilty of committing a crime by your own assessment and as such it is "WRONG" to enforce the law as it is written. So not being licensed is ok given the disaster is large enough? What is the parameter that the legal system could use, to be fair, as in the same for everyone, in measuring who can administer medications to animals without a license? If a person drives animals to safety and has no driver's license how many animals need to be saved per trip to allow someone to break the law? What's the maximum mileage allowed to travel? What category of disaster qualifies? Do we use windspeed or damage per square foot, and how is it assessed? What timeframe prior and after a disaster are people allowed to break the law? If we want a fair legal system we cant pick and choose who is accountable. |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by WebsterMark on 09/25/18 at 11:58:42 You're the one who brought up the five men taking advantage of those in need as evidence regulations are needed. I'm pointing out addressing social issues are likewise methods to reduce the need for regulations. In my neighborhood, if a disaster happened, I wouldn't have to worry about one of my neighbors scamming me. Now, there are a lot of reasons for that. I would suggest those five men would not be able to meet any of those reasons. My question is why don't we seriously address why those men are the way they are. Why are none of those men in my neighborhood? |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by Eegore on 09/25/18 at 12:28:09 I agree with trying to reduce the capacity for youth to be desensitized to sexual aggression and other means of reducing sexual violence. I don't know where you live but my experience has been that rapists are everywhere and I would not think that any neighborhood is exempt. Look at child molestation statistics. I have no idea how you know there isn't a single person who has ever committed a sexually violent act but I would be willing to talk to you more about it. Finding a community with zero sexual assault would be an amazing thing to study and find out how that happens. How do you know that no men in your neighborhood would rape someone in a disaster level event? An easy reference is the results of the classic "To Catch a Predator" series, and in more detail the book "A Natural History of Rape" which goes in depth as to how human sexual aggression works. I feel this is like saying drinking and driving should be legal because we have AA and we can further mitigate alcoholic issues. The problem being that not all DUI related deaths are from alcoholics. |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by WebsterMark on 09/25/18 at 12:34:11 I'm pretty sure there are millions of small neighborhoods where you could never find five men who'd rape a girl during a disaster. Mine is one of them. |
|
Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by Eegore on 09/25/18 at 12:40:25 I agree. But only if we took millions of groups of only 5 men, and not a pool of men in a given area. Are you meaning to say that you can select 5 men in your neighborhood that are absolutely incapable of committing sexual misconduct? I think that's certainly possible. I was under the impression you meant that all males in your neighborhood, not a select 5, have never committed a sexually violent act. In either case I don't think laws should be selective. I think having laws that protect people like victims of shelter abuse are ok, even though that does mean that sometimes honest people can't turn a garage into a shelter. |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by MShipley on 09/25/18 at 13:29:09 This is the kind of Leftist logic that is destroying the world. As an example, a lot of us in my church used to go downtown and feed the homeless. We did this for years. One day the cops came by and asked if we had a restaurant license????? So now we can NO LONGER go out and feed needy homeless people without a permit that cost money and food inspections along with inspections of the facility where food is prepared. Why, because someone may get sick. No one did ever get sick but they might so we had to be stopped. Absolute stupidity. And the left wants more government control and interference. |

Why not. The real issue here is people abandoning their pets. And some woman trying to help. What's that got to do with some criminals during Katrina? There are always going to be dirt-bags trying to take advantage of folks during times like this. Bringing those things up as though they have any relevance to people heading for the hills and not taking responsibility for their animals IS nonsense. And arguing about it as though it is relevant to the issue JOG brought up IS just going to wind up as a circle jerk. As far as arresting the woman goes, I expect the government to act stupidly, That's what governments do. I (perhaps mistakenly) hold individuals to a higher standard. If you have to head for high ground so you don't drown, what do you expect the dog or cat you couldn't be bothered to take with you to do. Hitch a ride on Noah's Ark when it cruises by? |

Title: Re: Stuff that pisses me off Post by Eegore on 09/25/18 at 17:18:24 Wouldn't the prudent thing to do, that is in our control, is to change the law? Getting people to not abandon animals isn't in our control, (that is also a circle jerk) and either is making the decision for a shelter to administer medications to animals. My point is that we should not select who the law applies to and who it doesn't based off of circumstance or personal opinion. She broke the law, but not enough of the law for it to apply to her? Really? Just like the previous post about feeding the needy, we had that issue but we came to a legal compromise over about two years of petitioning and hearings. We can supply food to shelters, or if we hand the food out ourselves we must use safe food-handling procedures and document it. That got a lot more people fed than complaining about laws. Who here emailed the county where this is happening if you are so upset about it? I did. E.B. Borden Parker, County Attorney, 919-735-7275 E. Ray Mayo District 1 ray.mayo@waynegov.com |

Let me get this straight. Eegore you said: “…During Katrina people set up a rescue shelter where they took in whoever but mostly elderly. At another "shelter" a group of five men raped a girl and her mother and these are only the reported victims of situations like this…” And you stated that is basically your personal opinion, biased on your, ‘Observed Reality’, by saying the below. “…I have no data or references, this is based off of my personal observations and actions in disaster areas that when compiled and posted represent my opinion…” So does that mean that someone else’s, ‘Observed Reality’, is just as important ? So does that mean that someone else’s, ‘Observed Reality’, is not to be slammed ? So does that mean that someone else’s, ‘Observed Reality’, when it disagrees with the opinion of a Troll, is not really, ‘real’, because a Troll says so ? |
