Title: Jury Duty In MN Post by MnSpring on 10/03/18 at 15:18:16 Got a notice to serve. So did some investigation on how people are selected. Selection is by Voting Registration, Mn ID, Mn DL SO, as long as a person has driver’s license, or ID card, his/her name will be listed on DMV records, and his/her name could come up for jury selection. Now here is the rub. Gotta PROVE, you are NOT a Citizen. Yep, the Fairy Dust Sprinklers, say it’s to Prevent Fraud, because some were checking, ’Not a Citizen’. So you check, ’Not a Citizen’, prepare to Prove it, so you don't get out of Jury Duty. YET, one does, NOT, have to prove you are a Citizen to do Jury Duty. !!!!!! Now let's see, the NON, Citizens who voted. Used their DL, to Vote. And the UL States, (including MN, and 3 districts in MN) Don't care one hoot. |

Title: Re: Jury Duty In MN Post by Eegore on 10/03/18 at 15:59:20 Are you saying they can be selected or can actually be on a jury? Where I live non-citizens can be selected to appear but may not be selected to perform. |

"...Are you saying they can be selected or can actually be on a jury?..." I will restate what I said. If one checked the, ‘Non Citizen’, box. Then, that person requires PROOF, they are a, ’Non Citizen’. According to a phone call to the snotty county person in charge of the Jury selection. Nothing was said about any person serving on a jury, providing any kind of documentation or Proof, they Are a Citizen. In this case, My B.C. is on file in this county, so it could be checked easily. Yet the most of the people live in a county/state, they were not born in. So how is it checked ? It is the same with Voting in Minn, (as Calf), One ONLY needs a Drivers License to Vote, and tick the box that says ‘I am a Citizen’ (Which No One Verifies) And anyone, that is ANYONE, who passes the driving test, gets a D.L. So, Yes, If they wanted to get 40.00 a day, and .40 a mile, they could serve on a Jury. I see nothing to stop it from happening. "...here I live non-citizens can be selected to appear..." If the selection to appear, is by D.L. or I.D, very easy to see how that works. "...but may not be selected to perform..." Can you elaborate, on how or what, 'vetting', process is happening to prevent a non Citizen from serving/performing ? |

Jury selection where I am is an involved process where both the prosecution and defense interview each person in the jury selection process. This process includes background checks to make sure a person with an active warrant is taken into custody and not allowed to serve in the jury. I think it would be possible for a non-citizen to provide false identification and possibly end up serving on a jury. Due to the fact that many more people try to get out of jury duty than those who try to illegally serve I can see where proving non-citizen status is similar to how saying "I'm racist" is not an immediate disqualification anymore. I have no data or references, this reflects my personal experience and discussions about the local legal structure and affiliated processes where I hold registered residence that when compiled and posted represents my opinion. |

Title: Re: Jury Duty In MN Post by MnSpring on 10/04/18 at 09:01:42 I have a question. Why in post #2 where the words: "... here I live non-citizens can be selected to appear but may ..." Which just after I did a direct quote of that post, that post was changed to: "... Where I live non-citizens can be selected to appear but may ... Totaly understand changing words, spelling, syntax, however the, 'Edit' logo would appear. It does not appear in this case. How do I do that ? I know their are times the Auto Spell Check, puts in a word which is like what I said, yet perhaps spelled differently. So their are times I would like to change that, without the, 'Edit' appearing, as to not give the impression I changed the entire meaning or content of the post. How do I do that ? Or is that something only a Moderator can do. And only if I asked them to do it ? |

Title: Re: Jury Duty In MN Post by Eegore on 10/04/18 at 09:19:18 I assumed when you cut the sentence to place it as a quote you inadvertently cut out the W in the word "Where" thus resulting in "here". Where does it revert back to the original spelling? I never edited that post to my recollection, upon audio playback the word "Where" was what was said so I had no need to edit. |

Title: Re: Jury Duty In MN Post by verslagen1 on 10/04/18 at 09:23:58 Anyone can go back and edit there own posts at any time, although I think there is a time limit and no edit symbol will appear unless the user uses that button. And yes a moderator can do it too and usually a time stamp will indicate when he has. |

I did not, 'cut' anything. I simply hit, 'quote', in the reply, so it, 'quoted' all of what was the original post. |

Title: Re: Jury Duty In MN Post by Eegore on 10/04/18 at 14:13:59 Yeah that's weird then as it didn't even quote correctly: "Eegore wrote on Yesterday at 15:59:20: Are you saying they can be selected or can actually be on a jury? here I live non-citizens can be selected to appear but may not be selected to perform. " That's the quote you got, and I typed it in two separate lines. The "W" and the second line itself are missing. I assumed there was an edit as the quote was incorrect, and the color had changed. |

So there's less than a 1% chance that an illegal will serve. ;D |

Title: Re: Jury Duty In MN Post by MnSpring on 10/05/18 at 08:14:41 The point I was making is. Not that it is a concern that Illegals are serving on a Jury. But the Process. The point that to, VOTE, in several states, It only, takes a Drivers License. And anybody can get one. Even if the Federal Law, says you HAVE to be a Legal Citizen to Vote. Many States, MN One of them, just ’tick’ a box with your pen, or computer mouse. No Proof Required. Non at all. |

Title: Re: Jury Duty In MN Post by verslagen1 on 10/05/18 at 12:08:43 For myself, the biggest issue I have with the system is lack of transparency. Do they audit? How do they verify citizenship? It could be simply do they have a valid ssn/birth certificate/etc on file. |
