Lots of chain lube! :o
It’s easier to look at the pictures than explain it all on paper as it were. In short, chains, shafts, bevel gears and clutches.
Kinda reminds me of the mechanical backups on the F-14 Tomcat for use when a nuke took out the electronics.

I wonder how well it works in slippery conditions. With rear wheel drive only, you can slip and slide in the back - while the front wheel is providing an attempt at steering.

Where I grew up we used to ride in the old strip mines, and I can remember doing really slippery uphill climbs with the back tire wiggling around looking for traction - if both tires are spinning..........would you have less directional control?
