Title: Craigslist now charging $5 per motorcycle ad. Post by DesertCat on 11/26/19 at 10:28:36 With Craigslist now charging $5 per ad, on other m/c forums people are predicting the death of Craigslist and the rise of Facebook Marketplace. I don't think so. I like the switch to making sellers on Craigslist pay $5 for motorcycle ads. It has completely stopped the following: - the 50 "scam" ads per day (in the Phoenix area), you know, the Harley Softail that should cost about $9000 and is selling for $1500. - the people who post 5 identical ads for the same bike. - the guy selling his Harley socks for $10. - the dirt-floor garage mechanic selling his unfinished POS bobber project for $150. |

Craigslist -- best results but be careful of the scammers, selling and buying. They're easy to spot. Facebook Marketplace -- OK results but lots of goofy "cool ride dude!" messages. CycleTrader -- basically dead but I still use it. It has a free one-month option w/4 pics. 20 years ago this was the best resource but it cost a lot -- IIRC, about $50 for 7 weeks. |

Title: Re: Craigslist now charging $5 per motorcycle ad. Post by DesertCat on 11/29/19 at 12:53:54 I just counted. There are 36 new CL motorcycle ads today in the Phoenix area. And it's only 2:00 PM. And not one single scammer. Sure, before CL started charging there would have been 50-60 ads with many scammers in the mix. Plus knuckleheads selling used Harley chaps for $20 -- eeewww! I think that CL is alive and well. |
Title: Re: Craigslist now charging $5 per motorcycle ad. Post by Dave on 11/29/19 at 13:02:10 I never really understood how/why Craigslist didn't charge for listing items for sale to us plain folk........seemed weird to be able to list things for free. (I understand they do charge the "commercial" advertisers). I have a few things listed on Craigslist that I posted a couple of weeks ago - it was still free to list a trailer and a few motorcycle parts. |
