Title: Re: 20,000 miles on a pizza bike! Post by Dave on 04/24/20 at 08:52:37 Sure makes you respect the reliability of the little Honda bikes. They have been making some form of this engine and bike since the early 60's! Who wants to get one and go on a trip with me? I guess you have to stay on the local roads so you can travel at speeds around 50 mph - which is where the test rider thought the bike was more relaxed. :o Not sure the US model of the Super Cub is as of road durable as the models used in the videos which appear to be more Adventure Bike models. https://www.cycleworld.com/riding-worlds-friendliest-motorcycle-honda-super-cub/ |
Title: Re: 20,000 miles on a pizza bike! Post by Ruttly on 04/24/20 at 12:25:06 The horizontal single , 50 ,70 , 90 , 110 and now a 125 is well over 100,000,000 units sold worldwide making it the most popular motorcycle ever sold. That's right well over 100 million. I think I owned 5 or 6 back in the day. Makes me want a new one ! |
Title: Re: 20,000 miles on a pizza bike! Post by Ruttly on 04/24/20 at 12:52:38 The slower speeds allow you to enjoy and actually see the countryside. Where as at 70 mph you have to pay more attention to stay alive. At 45/50 mph is a very relaxed pace , very enjoyable. I must be getting old. I used to always wanted to lead and get there first. I still love to go fast and ride the edge. But just think of everything you miss at 90 mph when all your attention is spent on staying focused ! |
Title: Re: 20,000 miles on a pizza bike! Post by Fast 650 on 04/24/20 at 14:46:44 Not to mention they are a lot of fun to get crazy on. Ever seen a postie bike grand prix? <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMBuZOyF_ls> |
Title: Re: 20,000 miles on a pizza bike! Post by Ruttly on 04/24/20 at 15:57:12 I've never heard the term postie bike. Someone explain the name. At 60 years old this is my kind of racing , affordable. I need info. I had a black cm91e with a 3 speed that would do 71 mph with a springer front end and s & w rear shocks and flat track bars on it. Back then all 17" tires were junk , the tires were never trustworthy but that what makes it fun and separates the racers from the rest of the field. I need to find a event that's local , then build me Postie Bike. I still have 2 stacks of vintage number plates , somewhere. |

Easy. The Australian mail carriers use those bikes to deliver mail. Postie is just a slang term for postal service bike. |

Title: Re: 20,000 miles on a pizza bike! Post by Dave on 04/26/20 at 04:32:05 As much fun as the VanVan might be....I believe a mid sized enduro motorcycle would be more practicable and get you more value. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX-qnwVtoMI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2a-sUdaNJ8 |

Title: Re: 20,000 miles on a pizza bike! Post by MMRanch on 05/05/20 at 21:59:26 That ride through Canada might make a feller wish for a bigger fuel tank ? That makes me think of the Royal Enfield 400cc and its front carriers for extra fuel tanks. I know a fellow who has one and he says they don't go up mountains at hwy speeds , but they can go up almost any mountain ! I believe only 26 HP is the problem. So , I need fuel every 125 miles on my S-40 . I did see a 14 gallon fuel tank on a DR650 once . The guy said he drove it across Canada one summer. :) I've got a 5.5 gallon tank on my Guzzi V-7II that averages 55 miles/gal. But still 250 miles between fuel stations might be hard to do in some places ? :-/ |
